If Campbell repeats as division champ after losing both coordinators that will do a lot for his legacy.
It's going to continue to be a tough division to win consistently in for at least a little while.

Vikings added three new players to the interior offensive line, Packers added two really good receiver prospects including taking one some considered to be the best receiver in the draft, Lions continued to tinker and add to their defensive line, and the Bears did everything possible to upgrade the talent around Caleb Williams including more weapons on offense. IMO this is the most competitive division in football and it's likely going to come down to attrition and which new additions do the most towards the success of their teams. You can basically draw names out of a hat and be as accurate when trying to predict the division

The brain drain was devastating in Detroit. The Lions are left with a more quotable Mike Tice. The roster Brad Holmes has put together will insulate them from a return to mediocrity, but they reek of another 1 and done.

I like Campbell unconventional 100 sold out run through fire mentality but it always felt like a short lived existence. Todays NFL changes from year to year unless your are a handful of organizations. The Lions also lost five 5 assistant coaches.
7 new coaches ...........Hard to believe that's not gonna show up on gameday

We finally have our franchise QB, and surround him with what looks like a Super Bowl level roster, only to have to fight tooth and nail just to win the division. Imagine putting this roster in a division with the Bucs, Panthers, Falcons and Saints. But noooooooo.

Agreed, but.....this is where I'm hoping a kid like McCarthy can make the difference: close games, being ice and clutch. Where being a winner counts in those crucial moments. That's my HOPE. I see it as we will be more ready when it comes to the playoffs. We will ultimately play 6 games against playoffs teams within our own division, plus many others along the way. In order to be the best, we have to beat the best. We took care of business last year just fine, we have a better roster now, I don't see it being much different. It keeps the team in that mindset week in and week out. When it comes to playoff time, we already know we are good as we have proved it every week grinding it out. Teams that just blow through their schedule, tend to be complacent at times. We won't have that luxury, we will just simply be ready and will face the same mindset at any given moment. When you're in dogfights every week, you use everything you've got. You show everything in your arsenal. Teams who have an easier go can keep a few aces up their sleeve for the playoffs. Or so I tend to think. |
