Owners to vote on changing NFL playoff seeding
#1
Probably won't pass, but it's shocking to me how many people oppose this, most of whom don't seem to understand that division winners are still division winners and automatically get a playoff spot.

The current format really hurt us last year, however I do not want to see it changed as it could also lead to other potentially unfair scenarios. For instance, we will most likely have the toughest division in the conference which could result in the division winner having more losses than someone in a weaker division. If they are going to do that then to be fair they would need to do away with playing each team in your division twice.

I would rather risk that scenario than seeing a shit team get to host a playoff game simply because they were the least shitty team in a shitty division.  They get their division title,  regular season wins should have benefits too when it comes to playoff seeding for all teams,  not just the division winners.

If so, do you think they should continue to play each team in the division twice, because then the basis for the standings is not fair for teams in the strongest division.

If you arent going to have division double matchups,  then get rid of divisions and diviison titles....or leave it alone and just make the regular season about the division crowns and the playoffs about the best teams.

I do think that the better record team should get homefield, but I don’t really care that much about this issue. It comes up so infrequently and very rarely is it going to be as glaring as it was last year. Whatever it ends up being is fine.

According to NFL radio, this is looking likely to pass. We’ll know soon.

Wow, I hope so. Even if it ends up hurting us in some way, it's just a more fair and logical way to seed playoff teams. If it had been enacted last year, the Vikings would've hosted the Bucs instead of travel to the Rams.

I was pretty surprised to hear this as they’ve tried this a couple times before. I’m not sure why they’d have a change of heart but I agree with it.

It should pass, its common sense. You play games outside your division. Seeding should always be best records at the top and work down. If you aren't going to be rewarded with home playoff games with wins, why win games at a certain point if you can only be a certain level seed? Division champs will always have a place in the playoffs, but put them where they belong.
