That was a head scratcher. There have been a handful of this-guy-over-that-guy moments in our draft history that could have changed our fortunes significantly, maybe even resulting in a Super Bowl or two. One was Darrin over Marcus. Another was Alexander over Sapp. Sapp and Randle on the same line? Fuhgeddaboudit.

The only time I've ever been so pissed at the organization that I wrote them a letter (before email and all that) voicing my displeasure as a fan and asking if the organization doesn't give a shit about winning, why should I give a shit supporting them as a lifelong fan. Red McCombs wrote me back himself claiming they made McKinnie fair offer and "no one player was bigger than the team itself" even though it was widely reported the team was trying to lowball him on a contract and had a reputation leaguewide for being cheap. Those Red McCombs days were wild...

McCombs was a terrible owner. All the threats to move the team, going super cheap on hiring the head coach in Mike Tice, trading Randy Moss (and getting so little in return), forcing Stringer's widow to fight for every penny. The Wilfs have since seen to it that Korey's memory is honored at Viking games and have contributed to the institute she set up in his memory. 

Fuck Red McCombs and thank God for the Wilfs.
