Gotta be honest, I always assumed the process kicked off the evening after Day 2 picks were done.

IMO rounds 5-7 are just UDFA guys you don't have to negotiate with, getting them on fixed rookie deals instead. The % of draftees who ever have impactful careers after the 4th round is very low, it's just an indistinguishable mass of guys along with the UDFAs. Which is why I've never understood people getting so worked up about them on draft day.
