Yup. No safety either. Or iDL. My book that’s a little precarious. But at least we’ve got a WR3/WR4 on hand. That’ll play as we migrate to a more heavy dependence on the running game. Or, when KOC said we now have the personnel to run his entire playbook he meant more 4 wide formations?
I’m going to guess he meant, with a first year starter at QB, we’re going to be running a lot more. So, yeah we’re one injury away anywhere blah blah blah is just trite bull shit. Seeing as it’s a major cog in the team construction (you know, FA dollars and draft capital that we’re all lauding) I’d say it’s at least a little troubling that we didn’t tap into a watershed year for RBs.
But, maybe that’s just me.

Completely overhauling the IOL will upgrade the run game more than any RB they added imo.

Maybe. Maybe not. On paper it appears to be a slam dunk.
Then again 3 of the 5 nominal starters are returning from injury, 1 RB is on the wrong side of 30 and the other is coming off injury. A 4th presumed OL starter has zero NFL snaps.
But we do have 2 guys competing for the 50 or so targets WR3 got last year so that’s pretty sweet.

The safety is probably a little more surprising to me than the back. I think the back may have been an early round or nothing consideration and they just didn't fall for us. Even if Chandler makes the team, we're still a RB down. So I doubt we're done there.
And the numbers just don't really add up at the safety position at all. We lost a starter, haven't replaced him and Harry is 400 years old. I heard something about Okudah moving to safety? Still, I doubt he can be counted on as a starter.

We go into the 26 off-season with a gapping hole at safety. If Theo Jackson doesn’t pan out it’s a chasm. This offseason was a complete failure to date to address roster continuity going forward at safety. Maybe a post June 1 cut appears or a roster cut down vet. Perplexing to me.

The entire starting (proposed) lineup up and down on both offense and defense is stronger today than it was a year ago at this time.
You're never going to fill every spot with "name" players. One would hope that you have some unknown or previously unproven names (like Purdy being thrust into the Niners starting QB role as Mr. Irrelevant, or even Mason spelling McCaffrey last year). That's where coaching becomes critical.

Maybe they like Jay Ward more than we know. Otherwise, I think we're a safety down.

We are down a safety, I dont know how anyone could argue it with a straight face.
You cant force picks cough "ponder" cough, but not addressing it at all is (I agree) more surprising than passing on a RB this draft.
I'd bet a nice chunk of coin they'll do something to address the position this summer or b4 the first snap in September.

He should be ok, but I am holding my breath "a bit" re: Fries.
Dude had a nasty season ending injury last year - I'm sure they scrutinized the hell out of it b4 writing that big of a check.
I am glad they can re-stock with more youth next draft.
I can see right now we'll need a C of the future to curate too. Nature of the beast, circle of life....
Whatever you want to call it.
