Hope you're right. I'm still holding you accountable for JJM. I will admit he's got some quick cuts and moves like someone else.

Now you want to toss this big of a comp onto the pile too? Wink

lol, yes sir I have put myself out there with JJ.....and on a lesser level Tai. I'm excited to see all my boys and girls on this board, long suffering purple bleeding folks, when they see the new religion with McCarthy. I won't tell you I told you so, but I'll just put this meme in a thread:

Some bone-headed moves in his personal life, hopefully he learns to make better decisions. But I luv what he brings on the field.

I think he is a very solid WR.  That is why I think he is gone when his contract is up.  Don't think we can pay 2 top WRs, especially if we have a replacement for #2.

Amen. He’s easily WR1 on at least a dozen other teams. I’m not sure why he’s such an afterthought here. We control his rights for 3 more years yet all I hear is we need to find his replacement or he’ll be too expensive to keep. If the tightfisted Bengals can pay two top tier WRs I’m pretty sure we can.

I'm reading evals of this guy that say he can separate and ones that say he can't. The Strib beat writers are saying the team got him to return kicks which makes sense.

I agree on Addison being a 1,  in a 1a, 1b scenario,  i dont know that he will be the 1A type of guy like JJ or a few others,  but I think he draws more on his next deal than the Vikings can justify paying.

When you carry JJ type contracts,  the rest of that WR room need to be on rookie deals or otherwise very friendly veteran contracts IMO.  Just to many mouths to feed.

Its not about how tight a grip a team has on their cash....its a capped league that has minimums and unspent rolls into the next season raising the minimum.  Not being able to keep Addison is more about cap allocation and 2 top tier WR means you will have to pinch pennies elsewhere,  which usually ends up being OL or DL,  F-THAT....they are just starting to realize that we need to focus on the trenches,  dont want to see that go the other way anytime soon.

I would love to see the blockhead stay and grow up in Minny,  he is an exciting player to watch,   but I dont see the way we do that without damaging the roster elsewhere.

When does the cap become a concern again? Next year? We’re over by about $17 million. Aaron Jones counts for about $16.8 of that. I’m guessing he’s not around for that. Restructuring O’Neil, Hock, Greenard, and maybe Jefferson easily clears that issue as well.

Right now we’re about $17.7 below the cap. I believe our rookie cap is $5.675 million. Let’s say we spend half that surplus on a vet CB, which we won’t, be for arguments sake we carryover $6 million. I’m no Rob Brezinski but I’ve got potential to turn that $17 million cap deficit into easily $30+ million in cap space without breaking at sweat.

Where’s the biggest cap hit typically come from? QB. We’ve got 4 years of minimal cap impact from a hefty QB contract. Plus if we franchise tag him for an additional year to circumvent a huge deal that’s 5 years of minimal to modest impact at the highest cap drainer.

Where’s another big cap hit come from? Edge. We’ve got Greenard’s modest contract and Dallas Turner on a rookie contract for the next 4 years. Another big cap hit comes from CB. Again, Murphy is on a well below market value contract for 3 years.

I truly don’t understand how so many on the board have this unfounded fear of the cap when it’s easily manipulated and circumvented. I go hiking with bears, mountain lions, and rattlesnakes in the area with less concern that many seem to have of the cap.

Never too early to start hand wringing over the cap. Maybe QB on a rookie deal is not the panacea we thought it was? We still have Brian O'Neill due in 2027, Jordan Addison due in 2027. And I don't know how the hell we're going to pay Donovan Jackson AND Justin Jefferson AND JJ McCarthy when the time comes. Oh and don't forget Dallas Turner. We're fucked.
