Why wouldn't you combine it? You paid what you paid in the end regardless of your plans or "intent".

You go to the store to buy a $500 TV you and the wife wanted but the sales guy talks you into the $2000 model. You get home and the wife is super pissed that you blew the budget and you say, "Oh it's ok honey cuz I only intended to spend the 500!"

....and this trade won't ever hit the 'genius' level because IMO we would have seen more out of Turner last season. He's young and hopefully his Sophomore year he'll be better versed in the BFlo D and a little more muscle mass.....but the jury is still out. Jared Verse talks and walks like a duck....he's a duck. Dallas? More to see, hopefully his best is yet to come. Pretty good overview below on Turner:

Overview
Long and athletic with the explosive traits needed to become an impactful NFL pass rusher. Turner’s first-step quickness and elite closing burst are important building blocks, but he still needs to work on his process from Point A to Point B. He hasn’t learned to create the space and angles needed to consistently attack the edges, but that should come with better hand development and a more diversified approach. A team would be wise to widen him out and allow him a better runway to ignite his burst and overwhelm tackles with his speed. He’s added 20 pounds since coming to Alabama, but he struggles at times to stack and shed run blockers or set a firm edge. Turner’s frame and game are much less developed than Will Anderson Jr.’s coming out of Alabama last year, so it could take time for him to make his mark as a starting 3-4 outside linebacker.

This, this, so much of this!

I snark about the ridiculous draft obsessing each season, largely because all of the people just fixated on the "pajama bowls" of various types are so desperately attached to what their teams' first-day picks will be doing, starting in September. Hey, I get it, AFTER we get our picks, I'm pretty interested, too...

...but, my expectations for rookie seasons are pretty vanilla. Yes, Moss, AP, and some others shone very brightly very early...but they're legends because they weren't typical, even for first round picks.

QBs, CBs, WRs, and other high-IQ positions infamously take 2-3 years to really show their real production levels. Linemen and backs typically need to gain muscle and coaching in their rookie seasons. A huge number of players need to get used to the speed of the game, as well as the realities of being a professional top-tier athlete (just ask Addison).

A lot of the Purple People were immediately condemning KAM for his early draft performances, and there's certainly reasons for it...but, others that drafted the Underwoods, Jemarcus Russells, Ryan Leafs, and more showed that the "Cine" miss was hardly a rarity.
Build on 14-3, take back the NFCN, break the ****ing curse. Simple.

Oh my. LOL Not quite. More like you liquidate $2000 worth of stock to buy a $2000 Samsung. You get to Best Buy and find out the Samsung is on sale for $1500. You don’t need the full $2000. So you decide to spend extra $500 on the most kick-ass 15-inch subwoofer you’ve ever heard. The kind you can hear from Neptune, and feel in your balls. You get home and the soon to be ex-wife bitches at you for spending $2000 on a sexual device.

The first trade was for providing us the necessary ammo to go get our QB. We were not leaving the 2024 draft without one of the top QBs. Through some combination of our preferred QB not being available and teams not forcing us to spend it to go get Penix or JJM, it wasn’t used for that purpose, but that is undeniably why we traded up the first time. If we weren’t in need for a QB, we certainly wouldn’t have traded that far up to get Turner. In my mind, it’s similar to what the Falcons did with Cousins and Penix. An overpay to ensure they had competency at the most important position. I think in hindsight, if we want to mentally assign those trades to Turner, we will be offsetting that with the dramatic efficiency at which they got JJM.

That said, Maroonbells said it more eloquently.

Slicing more baloney doesn't really change it. Unless he turns out to be a perennial all-pro, it was a big overpay.

Perennial all pro or a massive bust, either way, I like the boldness of moving up for the consensus best defensive player in the draft. Fortune favors the bold.

There is no way in God's green earth that they are going to finalize, much less announce, an extension at this point before the draft.
Everyone's eyes have to be on the ball here. No rush to get it done.
I believe it will happen in May or June.

That's fine, I hope he turns into something more than what he is so far.

But if you go into a draft and spend a first, two seconds, a fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh for one guy, I'd say most people are going to expect more than a rationalization abut what the g.m. might have done with those picks that he didn't actually end up doing.

close... but you dont really get that sub for $500,  in this scenario it really cost you more like an additional $900,  so you blew your budget by about 20%,  but you did come home with 2 pieces instead of 1.  enjoy your quacking balls.
