Kevin O'Connell did say that he kept J.J. McCarthy abreast of his conversations with Aaron Rodgers the same way he would any other free agent: "I do see him every day throughout the week, and I thought it was important that he was hearing it from me."

The honesty is laudable, and I still see no need to worry.

I think we move on QB2 after the draft, and a lot of blood pressure can drop.
Wishing a great season for the team, Especially Mundt and Kwenkeu! Big Grin

What?! Two things cannot be true! Kevin, do you mean to tell me just because you might see the wisdom in having a conversation with Darnold about returning, or Rodgers about signing, that you DON'T hate JJ McCarthy? Look, Kevin, bubby, that might fly in business and team building and all that highfalutin bit-city stuff, but it's gibberish to us screen-addled Twitter addicts who've been conditioned to see everything in binary.

....and as he mentions, Rodgers reached out to have a discussion. A discussion was had. And he kept JJ in the loop, as I edited my original post to include.

One thing I'm sure of... JJ McCarthy is too self-confident and self-aware to let something like that affect him. He's just going to be the same guy and work his tail off to be the best version of himself for the team regardless of if he's starting or holding a clipboard like last season.

I feel like I am listening to a car salesman. Yes two things can be true, both an apple and orange and be healthy foods, but only 1 guy can be QB1 and Rodgers is not interested in being a backup so you either see JJM as QB1 or you do not and if you do, no need to talk to a guy who wants to start. The Bears and Lions did not talk with Rodgers and do their due diligence. Sorry coach, but I call BS, either you are not 100% confident in JJM or you were helping Rogers perpetuate yet another social media stunt to get the attention he craves and maybe a few million more from the Steelers. Either way, pretty disappointing. How about just coming out and saying you are not signing Rodgers and ending it. There was a lot of talking in circles in that interview and not a lot of direct statements.

I totally see that point as well.

Just as two things 'can be true', its also that KOC comes across a little slick here. All this does is light a fire under McCarthy. But in the end:

@RapSheet on JJ McCarthy and the @Vikings

"It feels like JJ McCarthy is for sure the Minnesota Vikings guy…The conversations that have been had this week already seem to emphasize that even more".

I get your point of view, but Rodgers reached out to the Vikings...  not the other way around.  I think KOC was just acknowledging that yes, they had a conversation with Rodgers since it was out there that they had talked with him.

I think this was more setting the record straight and saying hey, we didn't reach out, we drafted JJ and are rolling with him, but if a former MVP calls and wants to pitch himself to you, you have to listen.  Especially when it was rumored that Rodgers wanted to come here so badly he was considering doing it for the vet minimum.  Considering the Vikings didn't sign him, I think it's safe to say they are good with JJ.
