Anyone else not enjoying the Rodgers watch?
#1
Hey, in the grand scheme of life, it's nothing. But speaking as a fan in the fan world of this board, can't we just move forward with our top 10 QB we moved up to secure? And maybe that is exactly what Minnesota is going to do, its not up to them to deny or confirm this Rodgers rumor. But I'm not sure about anyone else, but I have drama fatigue with this franchise. Its always one thing or the other. I really thought that was going to change when we let Kirko move on and drafted JJM. Excellent, a top drafted QB that could possibly be a franchise dude. But no, here we are again with more melodrama.

I don't deny that Rodgers might have a really good year in Minnesota. I just don't want this douche here and I don't want the media circus that will become his every pass, his every INT and his every word. And the questions about McCarthy that will come up. And how that will dominate every press conference from now until the season ends. And those that love or hate the move. Etc., etc., etc. Can't it be enough to set the table the way they have for a young guy like McCarthy? After the high and buzz of what appears to be a great FA class, this has brought me back crashing to earth, this possibility.

Like I mentioned, this is not real life, its just entertainment and we're fans. Everyone will be just fine. Its just a bit of a wet towel thrown on the whole thing as a Viking fan IMO. Getting behind Favre was one thing, getting behind Aaron Rodgers is a completely different mindset altogether. Far worse. And if we didn't have JJM, I'd feel differently.....about Uncle Sammy and this scenario. But that isn't the case, is it? That's the rub for me.

Tick tock......

Rodgers is 41 and suffered a significant lower leg injury two seasons ago.

Anyone remember how Favre played from age 40 compared to 41? Peyton Manning played great at 38 and then his play dropped dramatically at 39.

I get wanting some competition for JJ McCarthy given he just got mental training last season, but bringing in the Aaron Rodgers circus isn't what we need. Given how much cap space we have even after all these signings, we could have easily beat Daniel Jones 1-yr deal with Indy.

But don't mind me, none of my arguments against bringing in Aaron Rodgers are valid.

From ESPN:

"The Vikings are clearly the best spot for Rodgers, as they are the best spot for pretty much any quarterback. The reason we're in this whole waiting game is because Rodgers wants the Vikings to be super-duper-sure they don't want him before he commits to another franchise. But there isn't an open job that comes even close to Minnesota's combination of pass protection, playcalling and offensive playmakers. That's why it's such a good job for Rodgers ... but also such a good job for second-year Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy."

I totally agree with you, great post. Even if they do not sign him, why all of the speculation and dragging this out. They made the decision to not bring Darnold back as the starter or keep Jones for starter money. So let's immediately go into the JJM era. Have the press conference where you thank Darnold and wish him the best, that you had discussions about bringing him back, but that JJM is the guy you drafted to be the franchise QB over the next 10+ years and excited to start the era and win a Super Bowl. All of this allowing themselves to be swept into the Rodgers drama is BS. Even if they have no intention of signing him, they need a backup, there are just so many guys left, go sign your guy and move on. As fans, we deserve better than have to be waiting to see if one of the top 2 aholes in the history of of the sport comes here and that is after already having to see the other guy here in purple. It is really disappointing in KOC and Kwesi, thought they were better than that and had more class. If it actually happens, I will be looking for some fall projects to take up my time, cause would not ride that roller coaster with this team.

Oh, man, I hate it.

This is a familiar feeling, the sports fan equivalent of an unsettled stomach: every sports bobblehead speculating on Rodgers in purple makes me feel like dealing with food poisoning and every article is another gurgle from the midsection. I remember having a tough time with McMahon joining us years back, not wanting that Taco Bell representative anywhere near us. He actually played with a ton of grit, I ate a little crow on that one. Moon had never been a divisional rival QB, I liked him on the team. But, I hated most of the Favre-a-Palooza as it was happening. All the media, every sports dink having to weigh in, and really only enjoying certain divisional wins and what-not...because the other shoe was gonna drop, one way or another. 2010 was like a walking nightmare.

I've really hated A-a-ron since his pouty draft day, his constant yapping at refs and pointing to the spot where his feeling got hurt, his media fanbois (looking at you, Joe Buck), and his tendency to toss his team under the bus.

I don't want any of that here, definitely not influencing JJM.
Build on 14-3, take back the NFCN, break the ****ing curse. Simple.

Wait until Monday when the Falcons may cut Kirko. Now THAT'S going to get the fanbase in a tizzy.

If this happens, which I think is still a big if, I'd take Kirko back as QB2 in a nanosecond. Less than that. He's be a good QB2 and a great mentor. I just don't see why they'd cut him with so much sunk cost in him for 2025. They need a backup as well.

I agree, for the most part. Still some teams out there looking for starters (Pitt, NYG, Cleveland) that he may be interested in. But overall, I'd take him as QB2 if he were amenable to coming in as the clear backup to JJ.

Not sure what Atlanta will do, although I can see them keeping him. I don't think their QB plan went as expected last year.
