Minnesota's best and most desirable QB2 option....

I don't think the Falcons are releasing Cousins. It'll cost the Falcons $10M (in addition to what they already owe him) to be the backup to an unproven 2nd year QB.

Notable free agent QB names:
Flacco, Winston, Trey Lance, Keenum, Wentz, Rush, Ridder, Wilson

Yeah, you might be right about this. Sunk cost will probably keep him in Atlanta this season.

Wonder how Kirk feels about sitting for a year at his age? Probably not so good. I'm guessing he'll push for a release or trade. Problem with a trade is the other team takes on the cap hit. The Falcons would probably have to agree to paying some of his salary.

Everyone wants a veteran back up QB behind JJM, but I wouldn't mind if they brought in a developmental draft choice KOC could work with. Look at the long list of free agent QB's available. Do any of them have the potential to win a Lombardi?
JJM is the guy. Should he get injured, the Vikings are screwed. But they would have a better draft choice next year, and the developmental guy would get some NFL experience to help determine if he could be the guy. I'm not sure why so many teams hire so many QB scrubs to be their back ups beyond the fact they are cheap.

Man, I couldn't disagree more. And I can guarantee you that no NFL coach or GM thinks of it this way. They better not. Vikings would be fools for investing this much in building a championship roster, only to have it fall apart if the starting QB sprains an ankle during the playoff run, and they didn't think to add a worthy backup because if the starter went down, they'd be "screwed anyway." Backup QBs have won Super Bowls.

Yes, JJ is the starter, but he's never taken a snap in an NFL game. The Vikings, probably more than any other team, need a capable backup. Right now I have no idea who that's going to be, but one thing's for certain: it's not going to be a developmental draft pick who also has never taken an NFL snap.

I feel it will be Flacco at this point.
