Riiiight. Who, Mac Jones? The new Mr. Glass, Anthony Richardson, has a most pivotal year in front of him.

My initial thought was Richardson would have greatly benefited from staying in school.

Yeah. No. Zero growth so far.

Don't know who they are looking at for this competition, but they are looking to replace Richardson, make no mistake about it.

Or just someone who can play while they give Richardson more time to develop. Coming out, Richardson had great tools but was considered extremely raw. Much more raw than your typical rookie. I don't know how you take a player like that, throw him to the wolves week one of his rookie season, and then wonder why he struggles.

Richardson, KOC's secret man crush!

They still have some time to stop him from sliding into the abyss...I think there are some options out there to buy them time, like a full seasons worth of curation.

KOC might be on to something: last year, Darnold....this year, Dimes......next year, Richardson....may as well trade JJM now. Wink

KOC will be the first HC to win Superbowls with 4 different starting QBs.

I could see them bringing in a Brissett, Mariota, Winston type of backup. As a Colts fan, you'd have to hope Richardson having a full offseason healthy and not recovering from injury goes a long ways in his progression as a quarterback and he makes a big jump in that department

Competition is the most overused, meaningless word when we talk about quarterbacks.

Teams draft guys high with expensive capital, they don't do this to have a competition. Sam Darnold didn't come here to compete with JJM and the fact he's on the way out the door after a decent year reinforces that reality.

Teams occasionally can sign or trade for a higher level guy. It's not to have a competition, especially not when you just paid a guy 40 million bucks. See Atlanta Falcons, Kirko for details.

If you decide to have a competition it's because you are pulling guys off the backup scrap heap and hoping maybe one of them will have a lucky year. A G.M. who says we need to have a competition is incompetent and/or bullshitting to cover his incompetence at finding a real qb.

Ballard should toss his hat into the "competition" to sign Sam, and help KAM make that tag and trade work by increasing the # of suitors. Ballard might salvage his job too, don't know. But Sam vs. Richardson wouldn't be a competition. Richardson can't hit the target half the time which is way low for the NFL. It's kind of an important skill when you're throwing the ball.
