I do think the prez believes this is truly whats best for the region and Palestinians
I do think he believes its inhumane to send anyone back to the pile of rubble as it is (and he's right)

I do not support turning Gaza into the Rivera Middle East, it belongs to the Palestinians - not Americans
I dont think there will be any Arab or European support, we'll be alone with Israel on it.
No Arab leader could publicly support this w/out significant backlash from each other and their people.
I dont think most Americans would want US troops in the middle of all of this or would be comfortable turning into US turf

Its surprising to me that a Populist president would float the idea of our troops in that hot spot for what seems like a longer period of time

This all may be a bargaining tactic for a totally different outcome
- The art of the deal seems to be the zeitgeist of how to conduct GeoPolitics for now.

J. Kushner (a # of years ago) floated the idea of how valuable Gaza is, I think it resonated with Trump over the years.

Ive always said, watch what Trump does, dont listen too much to what he says. Again, this could be a bargaining tactic.

Yea..we have no authority to annex it and frankly don't really want to. Trump always asks for more than he really wants so he has some negotiating room to get what he wants. For instance, Panama. Does he really want the canal back or does he not want the Chinese in charge of both ends of the canal and want free passage for US warships? In Greenland, does he really want to "buy" it from Denmark or does he really want access to mineral rights and the ability to expand our military base there? I think he's trying to gain some Arab consensus to rebuild Gaza from the ground up and accept refugees is they request asylum. I read today that half the people of Gaza want to leave. I can't imagine living like that.

I cant imagine it either, there is no infrastructure there and its just dangerous. There is 2mm of em and they are going to need a temporary and long-term place to call home, live and work.

We have a big stick with billions of aid going to Egypt and Jordan, we'll see if they open up their boarders or not.

Someone is going to have to re-build Gaza and Potus (for now) is very transparent about referring to it as American on-going.

It gets a little grey on whether some or all of the Palestinians will be welcomed back and whether they can truly call it "their home." I think thats the way he wants it for now...

In a statement after their meeting, Abdullah was more direct. “I reiterated Jordan’s steadfast position against the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

This is the unified Arab position. Rebuilding Gaza without displacing the Palestinians and addressing the dire humanitarian situation should be the priority for all,” he wrote on X.

The whole thing is tragic. About 1/2 of those that are left are under 18. Unemployment is around 80%. Only about 1/3 of the inhabitants claim Gaza as their homeland. The rest have been displaced to the region after nearly 80 years of conflict. Like you said PF, it's under 2M people at this point. Let them emmigrate to another Country (many came from other countries) and bulldoze the entire thing with guarantees against Israeli occupation. It's roughly 25 miles by 5 miles. That's not significantly different than the Korean demilitarized zone.
