Can u imagine the crickets on Darnold if he craps the bed the next 2 games?
All of the hyperbole gone - in an instant.
I dont think it'll happen and it would be sad if it did. But that is the reality of the world, especially pro sports.
Yes. This is the pivot point for Darnold's future. What happens from this point on will provide the answers to the riddle.
No more easy games. Beating Green Bay is crucial!

I am going to play the other side a bit here. What else are the Vikings supposed to say? Sam has already made his money for next year, no matter what happens moving forward. If he felt the Vikings didn't want him back for 2025, why would he play his best and go all out the remainder of the season? I am going to guess he and his agent have already had this discussion multiple times that he doesn't have anything more to prove from a money standpoint.
The Vikings aren't going to come out and say, we are going to let you walk, or we are going to tag and trade you. Then Darnold will go into playing it safe for next year's contract mode. Just my two cents.

Yah, I posted her article in the NYT earlier in this thread.
Winds are blowing that way it would appear...I still put the odds at 50/50 they tag/trade - unless Darnold just kills it the next 3-5 weeks. .
All bets are off at that point.

I'm probably naive about the business side of the NFL. But, I just think that there's such a great amount of goodwill between the Vikings & Team Darnold that I can't see the Vikings taking any action that will impede Darnold's choices to find his best fit.

The first job of the Vikings front office is to improve the Vikings...
I think the culture in Eagan is such that they will try and find a win/win for all the parties - and be respectful of Sam's wishes best they can.
We got to put a bow on 2024 and the Vikings need to extend KOC. Coach is the key as to what direction they go at QB in 25.

Agree. There is no downside to expressing love for Darnold. Vikings are likely thinking..."Of course we want him back. For the love of God, have you been watching him? That does not mean we'll be aggressive competitors in an open market bidding war with our franchise QB on the bench."
I think the Vikings are just going to let it play out and see where they sit in February. In other words, I don't think the decision on what to do with Darnold has been made yet. But I think it's pretty clear they're now having the "elephant in the room" conversation we talked about a few months ago.

Honestly, I don't think any 'sources' have any insight right now at all: the organization is 100% laser focused on each game and this season. There's plenty of time to discuss strategy when the season is over. I call bullshit on anyone that says they have a source that is feeding them info about the future of Darnold or even McCarthy. I post stuff that I see online about this topic, but I don't believe any of it because really this is all common sense scenarios that are obvious and one of them is going to be correct....you don't need a 'source' to tell anyone that. I think the staff is just way too into each weekly gameplan to sit around and discuss this at this time.

Agreed!!
This wont heat-up till the combine in Feb/March.
In the meantime, we got so much to play for the next 14 days.
I am looking forward to going to USB tomorrow - I sure as hell hope the Vikings bring their A Game.

Either sign him to 2-4 more years or let him go.
I'm sure if he signed a lucrative 2-4 year contract and blew out his knee in training camp he'd gladly return money paid because he's a good guy and plays for the love of the game.
