As of today? Yes, I would say he's one of the top guys to be considered...

Like so much else, the periods, exclamation points, I's dotted and T's' crossed will happen in 3 weeks.

Including my final takes on Darnold lol!

It's kind of a joke he wasn't in the discussion for it earlier this season. All you hear about is Dan Campbell, Dan Quinn, Matt LaFleur (when he was winning with Malik Willis), etc.

I mean everyone thought Darnold was shit before the season and no one had the Vikings winning this many games. The fact that he is able to get this type of production out of Darnold, won 12 games already, and we have a shot to knock off Detroit for the division, and be a #1 seed...

WTF does the guy have to do to get some recognition? He got fucked over for coach of the year when he got us to 13-4 and had some epic wins that season after taking over a roster that missed the playoffs for two straight years. Brian Daboll won it instead and he's boutta get canned for being a douche and having a terrible offense (which he was hired to fix...).

Put some shine on this man, he deserves it.

I think the press is praising the guy quite a bit...His performance this year is going to cost the Wilfs more $$$$.

To answer your question directly? Knock off the next 3, win the division and get the #1 seed. No small feat, but it's there for the taking.

I will be one bitter MF'er if they stub their toe in Seattle. And here I predicted them with 7 wins and i'm talking like that. F'ers pull me in too often.

He's the best Plan B guy I've ever seen. Just wins games. Nobody is going to out-gameplan him. He's going to be a perennial winner in Minnesota, 100%. I don't think KOC is going to be able to resist taking McCarthy forward as his piece of clay. His guy, wired his way, right out of the proverbial box as new. Loses nothing from a physical aspect, same arm talent. Midwest tough born and raised. Its going to be interesting.

They are NOW, but his name never came up in coach of the Year talk the first 10-12 weeks of the season.  It's just recently, which is a damn shame cuz the guy has more wins the past three years than a lot of coaches.  Heck, he put Josh Dobbs on the map for a couple weeks last season.

I honestly think a big part of that is who his starting QB has been. Darnold isnt exactly a media darling ala Allen, Mahomes, Burrows even Love.

Vikings head coach named Coach of the Year in NFL executive poll

Nobody expected the Minnesota Vikings, in a rebuilding year, to be 12-2 and in control of their destiny for the NFC North title and number one seed in the playoffs, especially after they lost first-round pick at quarterback J.J McCarthy for the season to a knee injury during the preseason. Fast forward to mid-December, and the Vikings continue to defy all expectations and are seen as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

This unexpected success from the team and the resurgence of Sam Darnold’s career has gotten head coach Kevin O’Connell some much-deserved recognition from NFL executives. In his annual poll of NFL executives from 27 teams around the league, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed that Vikings Kevin O’Connell was voted their Coach of the Year. Pelissero reported that O’Connell accounted for 16.5 of the 27 votes for the award, the most among coaches, and 13.5 more votes than any other coach received.

O’Connell has won 12 or more games in two of his first three seasons as the Vikings' head coach. The one outlier season was last when Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles while playing arguably the best football of his career. This season, O’Connell has taken the team to another playoff berth and can clinch the number one seed in the NFC if they win their remaining three games. All while the team is supposed to be rebuilding and clearing cap space to support a young quarterback on a rookie contract in the coming years.

There is no telling if the way this team plays will be sustainable and showcased in the postseason, but what Kevin O’Connell and the Minnesota Vikings are doing this season is something nobody expected.

After he was passed up for it before and Daboll won, I can't help but laugh. Now all these bandwagon jumpers are talking about him and I laugh some more. He is one of the best coaches in team history and KOC and KAM are getting shit done. Yeah it would be cool for him to be recognized and acknowledged but there are bigger goals for this team
