SI.com: Darnold's arm talent makes anything possible
#1
https://www.si.com/nfl/vikings/news/matt...jegrzpmjfh

“When you know he can make any of the throws you put out there, you can get creative,” he said. “As long as you can protect it, you can try to triple move and do all the fun stuff.” - Wes Phillips.

Over the last three weeks, Darnold is PFF’s No. 1 quarterback in overall grade. The slow building process seems like it’s coming to fruition as the 10-2 Vikings face an important stretch in the race for playoff position. “We're at the point where there's an expectation from our guys that we're going to go out and make enough plays in the passing game to win the game,” O’Connell said."

Hopefully Sam has some of the best chapters in 24 still to come.]

Its been one heck of a story and he and the coaching staff both have benefitted. Anyone who questions KOC and QB's now just has a personal vendetta to get over.

He's got much more of an arm than I imagined...Dude is accurate as hell a lot of the time and he's got ice in the veins in big moments.

If we did not have JJM in the wings (maybe dimes too) I would want to keep good Sam without a doubt. I know its not a perfect fit (for 25) but I would like to see him play under McVay - who could keep him focused and sharp ala KOC.

Wonder if Sam could end-up back in SF? Is it a slam dunk they sign Purdy to a big $150mm contract?

I think SF definitely wants Purdy back but at the right price.

Sam has crap between the ears and makes terrible passes at times. That will never change with him. All world arm, much for a thought process.

Also, Purdy has done more than enough to get paid. This year has been a shit show all around for that team. Yet his numbers are still good. Career 69% passer and 66% this year in an off year for the whole offense. Hes only in his 3rd year too. They will sign him. No question.

I think the niners going with Purdy on a big money deal will prove to be a mistake.  Hes a good not great QB and IMO, much like Cousins,  needs a better than average surrounding cast to have success.  I would put a top tier contract for Purdy in the same place i said when the giants did it with Jones.

He doesnt have to be great and carry the load. Not with Shanahan and they have more talent today than NY might have in 10 seasons.

The question is can they keep the band together with a new Purdy contract?

Aiyuk, CJM, Debo, Bosa...

Maybe they can with the Cap rising again? Purdy is not going to settle for Mayfield $$$.

I know it’s after Sammy’s best day ever but it might be time to start looking at re-signing him. You don’t get much better QB play than he’s done all year. Even on his down days he’s been good.

They should be talking about it internally and they probably have...

But in the end, its all about $$ and we're just not going to pony-up (I dont think) like some other team will. And Sam should take that $ if the team doesnt suck balls.

It's already been said here a bunch, but I think the Vikings are looking forward to a rook qb contract to build a team around for a while.

That is exactly my point,  teams cant keep over paying for good not great QB at the expense of the rest of the roster.  You are always going to have your misses at other positions that eat cap,  you cant overpay for average play when you have a track record of several seasons with minimal growth.  The fear of getting caught without a QB should be put to death,  get a good coach,  build a good roster,  and you should be able to find a Dilfer to put your into contention.

I think im finding more enjoyment this year than anytime in the last 7 or so.  Its just a team thing right now and  i love that kind of football.

Good mobility & pocket awareness, yes, holds the ball longer, but does the velocity make up for it?

Personally I hope we can find a way to keep slingin' Sam around.
