BREAKING: Giants release QB Daniel Jones

For the Vikings:
• Likely 3rd Round Comp Pick at some point in time
• Another 2024 Backup QB, but with notable starting experience. Dramatic upgrade over Rypian at very low money.
• Potential 2025 backup upgrade. Mullens not on roster in 2025. If Jones wants to take a year and learn to be a good QB, while being our backup, great. We all like JJM, but he’s got one preseason game under his belt and coming off injury. You probably want your backup QB to be more on the starting experienced side than the journeyman side.

For Jones:
• He gets to spend time with a QB whisperer and hopefully learn the position enough to get his career back on track. Maybe the next handful of months is enough. I don’t think it’s a given that teams will hand him a starting job in 2025. He can decide on 2025 in march and weigh his starting vs backup options.
• Going to be in the playoffs. Could get a ring. Potentially could play if Darnold gets injured.
• If he’s backup in 2025, and JJM fails to impress, could slide into starting role on a loaded offense that is coached by a QB whisperer.
