But once you have to sign your QB to a market rate contract, you need the cheaper rookie contracts that draft picks afford you to fill out your roster.
It obviously has to be a combination of both. But if I'm in charge and I decide, for example, the Vikings need CB, DT, RB and RG, I'm probably going to use free agency for the more impactful positions like CB and DT and the draft for the others. I think we've drafted enough busts in the secondary to have learned a lesson....I hope. Get guys who've already proven they can play in the NFL for those positions: DJ Reed or Charvarius Ward at CB, maybe Milton Williams at DT. Then use the draft to take a RB and a RG. I think with big contracts going to that side of the ball with Darrisaw, O'Neill, Jefferson, Hockenson, etc, the offense is where we'll need the cheaper players.

I think that this season's FA class has more than made up for whiffing on the 2022 draft.

That fiasco reminds me of a quote from Jalen Hurts after a particularly bad game he had a couple years ago...I'll paraphrase: "when you drop a deuce in the toilet, you don't just stare at it. You flush it and move on"

I think you need to put IOL into that class with CB busts,  better grab that OG in FA as well.

NFC Defensive Player of the Month
Jonathan Greenard

Greenard has been an unheralded but outstanding offseason addition, fitting defensive coordinator Brian Flores' scheme with aplomb. Over the past month, Greenard has posted 16 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, a forced fumble and a pass breakup for a Vikings team that could wrap up a playoff berth this week.

Like I said earlier this off-season... we essentially got younger and cheaper with no drop in production. The only reason why Greenard has flown under the radar is he was a little banged up earlier in his career as a Texan. He's blossomed into a star this season with more national visibility from the Vikings record and how good the defense has been.

Him, Cashman, and Van Ginkel have really morphed our front 7 into a strong unit.

I sure didnt see the Vikings hitting the jackpot this FA season to the degree they did.

Still more work to do on the "D side" of the ball, but they took some really big steps to improving this year.

Greenard has quickly become one of my favorite players. He's so active and involved in plays that don't show up in the stat lines too. Great acquisition by Kwesi and Co.

Greenard is a complete bad ass.

His get off at the LOS is unreal.

Kinda like the QB room situation , the Viking OLB core is stacked right now.

Dallas Turner is playing about 33% +/- of the snaps. He was the SEC POY ,and 2nd overall defensive player taken in the draft, and he's getting iced because the 2 guys in front are either Pro'Bowl or All -Pro ( Greenard is a Pro bowler and Van Ginkel is All-Pro.)

And the Vikings 3rd option Patrick Jones has 7 sacks.

That's stacked.

Right about now, would be a good time for Turner turn it loose.

I suspect that's coming Monday night.
