SI.com: Major concerns in Minnesota over Darnold

It means you can't compare anyone in the NFL at any position through that prism without doing a deep dive into systems, supporting weapons, etc. How would that work? Fans seem to love stats unless they go against a personal preconceived notion. Production and success (or lack thereof) over a period of time is how everyone is measured. You can say 'the team is 7-2 and Sam is good because of that' or you can say 'Sam Darnold has the most turnovers in the NFL and that's a problem'. Turnovers are bad, some are worse than others. TDs put 6 points on the board, but some are much easier than others. Do we critique and compare those as well? No, generally we don't other than maybe anecdotally.

I personally have argued this point for decades when talking about comparing athletes, especially over different eras.  its really a fools errand.  stats are another waste of effort,  remember when the Vikings pass D was ranked so bad... worst in the league,  well it wasnt because it was really that much worse than other teams,  its just that our run D was so damn dominant that teams abandoned the futility of trying to run against us.

Sam is what Sam is,  but what he is right now  is a head case,  they either need to sit him, or find a way to get that early season confidence back, but what they are doing right now is not productive.
Why isn't Chuck Foreman in the Hall of Fame?

Breaking news: Darnold underwent emergency procedure immediately following the Jags game!

Viking doctors successfully helped Sam remove his head from his ass, no word on possibility of recurrence…!  Cool Angel
They should have installed Keenum’s horseshoe while they were at it!  Tongue

With all the time and effort poured into him the last 2 years, it's become clear to me the definite   limits of how much coaching can improve a QB's overall  game over time.

Dobbs was kind of a similar thing. Ability was there but couldn't improve   by decreasing the mistakes.

I'm 100% certain KOC knows what he's doing and is properly coaching up SD, but for whatever reason it doesn't stick and  progress does not happen.  He reverts back to his tendencies that  betray him.
