It wouldnt be that high, maybe avg 35-40 per season and it would have to include a trade clause so if JJM emerged as the top passer that the Vikings could move SD to a new team.

I think that's much closer to reality. Mayfield got 3 years, $100M, so $33M per. Sam would likely get a smidge more than that just because it's a year later, but the circumstances are remarkably similar. Vikings might try to keep it to 2 years bumping it up a little more. But if the Vikings plan to trade Sam at some point maybe the term doesn't really matter.
