McGinn on GoLongTD: 'Darnold isn't playing with any fear'

BUT, everyone has had to think it was a possible situation.

IF (big if) Darnold reaches his #3 potential at yr 7? That would be one hella story and one hella position for the Vikings to be in. A good position to be in frankly.

If he's on a 1 year contract, why would the Vikings be in a position to trade him for a draft pick???

They would have to extend him, and that would be the tricky part. He'll want a long term deal. Baker got 4. Vikings aren't likely to give Sam 4 with JJ waiting in the wings. But Sam also has to realize that another team without our surround could result in the return of Bad Sam.

In a perfect world (it's not a perfect world), they would get Sam for two years, and assuming both JJ and Sam continue to look terrific, Vikings could trade Sam in year two and hand the keys to young JJ. But then you get into no-trade clauses and guaranteed money, etc. It's an awkward "what if" conversation for sure.

IT is, and there are a lot of chapters left to write this year.

We're getting way ahead of our ski's lol!

At some point, the question has to be asked (regardless of what Sam does in 24) and that is has JJM shown enough to be anointed a starter right from the get-go in 25?

I dont know and we gots lots of time b4 that has to be wrestled down.

These are good problems to have. The Pukers had great QB play for 20 years and 1 decent year with #1’s waiting in the wings. I hope this year starts a run for us.

I think JJ did. The way KOC talks about him, he was on a trajectory that had them excited.  I think they love him more than when they drafted him.  His personality, the way he works, the intelligence, the leadership.  He'll be starting sooner rather than later regardless of how Darnold plays this season.  I think the Vikings are looking at this as Sam plays great, they have options...  but JJ IIIIISSSSS their franchise QB.

I agree that they like him more than they expected to and that he is the future of the franchise. But I wouldn't mind sitting him another year if Darnold turns in an A+ season. It will be a good problem to have.

Of course Darnold could throw 6 picks and be booed out of the Bank tomorrow for all we know.

McCarthy isn't sitting another year, he's the starting QB in 2025. I wish Darnold well, but he won't be on the Vikings in 2025. KOC's vision is the lump of clay in JJM.
