Why did Matt Corral slide?
Rapoport said the Panthers viewed Corral as the quarterback in this class with the best college tape, but his slide to the back of the third round might have been caused by off-the-field issues. "He dealt with a multitude of issues including alcohol and related issues," Rapoport said on NFL Network's broadcast.Apr 29, 2022

Alcohol issues, 'unreliable behavior' caused Matt Corral's NFL Draft slide

More...seems to have been a head case? Good athlete, good tape, but...
Why did Matt Corral not show up?
He was eventually drafted 94th overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2022 NFL Draft, but a Lisfranc injury ended his rookie season and led to his release. The New England Patriots then claimed Corral off waivers, but he went AWOL from the team's facilities and eventually didn't play a game before being released.Apr 15, 2024

Is Matt Corral good?
5 things to know about Patriots quarterback Matt Corral
Tim Tebow once said Corral is “probably” the best Ole Miss QB ever. Last year, former Patriots quarterback turned college football analyst Tim Tebow said that Corral is arguably the best quarterback to ever suit up at Ole Miss.Aug 31, 2023

Corral is 25, highly recruited coming out of high school. Nimble, good processor. Had some alcohol issues. Smallish, 6'1", 200+ lbs. but ok arm. Hard to trust, New England signed him and then he went AWOL. Probably an ideal QB#2 in the NFL as his ceiling. Chain mover.

I think this is mostly to challenge Hall as the #3, but might not even be anything more than another camp arm. Could he be a possible backup to McCarthy next year? I don't know, the team likes Mullens but if Corral shows anything decent, he could be a less expensive option instead of Mullens. Probably overthinking this and the guy will be invisible and then gone.

So….don’t let Alison and Corral bunk together or go on any “fishing trips”

OR plan the team holiday party...

I think this signing is pretty much non-news.

He's basically a camp arm, insurance during preseason...maybe a mild threat to Hall, if he picks up the system quickly and proves that he can make decisions/reads more quickly.

How hard would it be to beat out Mullens? He could probably do it with one arm behind his back and both eyes closed.

Mullens knows the playbook better than anyone not named Cousins.

Other than that, I would hate to have to roll with him more than 2 games in a row.

Mullens is enormously capable, but not quite as capable as his ambitions think he is. He's a perfect backup for the QB room, but yeah...you'd worry every minute he was actually playing.

OOooof...safety as the new kid gets "Corraled".
