I don't doubt this, Doogie is dialed in:

But KOC is downplaying, yet also saying telling things. He's seeing JJM's potential and he needs more to confirm. More to believe. But this is how McCarthy has always done it, just let the skills speak: Whatever the level is, he'll get there. He's full of aptitude, coupled with top level athleticism. I do think this kid is going to change narratives. He's different. He's going to be the guy that just wins games in crunch time. Its going to be a big adjustment for us long-timers, lol.

Pretty consistent with every report that has been out there. I have a feeling that despite the plan to let him sit, that he is going to give them no other option, but to play him. I think one of the most challenging aspects of the adjustment period for rookies is at the mental level, however that is one of his strengths so his game may adapt more easily than most rookies.

I don't think I'd say every highlight... yes, the video of his red zone highlights the other day had 2 of his TDs and one of the incompletions as a stare down primary read but the other two he worked his progressions quick and made two great TD throws off his primary read.
In reading enough reports from different accounts, he's made some highlight throws against the 2s. Had some good reps against the 1s in red zone work, but also had some incompletions, check downs, and scrambles in 11-on-11 against the 1s.
I'll say this, we fans tend to overreact both good and bad... but what we should be encouraged because a lot of connected media folks are all saying great things about JJ. They have no reason to sugar coat so what their eyes are seeing and what their ears are hearing (from coaches and players) are all pointing to he's legit.
Despite some of the highlights, I still think he needs time to settle in.

Agreed, the kid hasn't experienced the speed or complexity of even a vanilla like pre-season game, let alone the real bullets of the regular season
Everyone needs to just breathe and let this play-out a while...

I'm breathing fine. Not saying he should start soon, its not what's best for him. But I am getting excited about his potential. Certainly a long way to go as most have mentioned. He's improving and if he can continue to work under the conditions of not needing to start, he'll continue to improve. His early accuracy has almost shocked me.
I might be optimistic, but don't get me wrong: I'm not calling for him to start anytime soon. Keep making mistakes and keep getting better. I think JJM being 'better' right now won't change anything, he's planted firmly at #3 on the depth chart and I think KOC will keep him there regardless.

All of this is fantastic news**, and if we really hit on JJ, I guess it shouldn't be too surprising that he's been the better of the two QBs, but I'd be super careful here. We can't fuck this up. All of those QBs who started right away and failed looked better than their competition in training camp too. Mac Jones, Bryce Young, Sam Darnold. Not all of them were failures, but enough to be concerned about.
**No doubt JJ has been better and this is great news, but keep in mind that Purple Persuasion in particular has a very obvious anti-Darnold, pro-JJ agenda in all of his camp reports, and I've seen some legit news sources like SI quote him, which is a little nuts.

All good advice here for fans, me included. Just a caveat: I've been qualifying my hype for JJM always, being sure to mention this is very early and the hype machine on Twitter is there and real both positive and negative. And I don't want him to start early.

100 percent. These highlights and the positives he's showing early are a great sign. We're not hearing reports of inconsistent footwork, accuracy, decision making, etc. We're hearing it with Maye and Caleb. All of Daniels "wow" plays I've seen are against air or 7v7.
Mahomes showed out his rookie year in training camp, but the Chiefs did the smart thing and let the experienced vet give him time. Vikings should do the same with JJ and I'm his second biggest hype man here.

You keep being you @Stickier lol!
The enthusiasm is great...Its something positive in a season where expectations are low and where fan joy is probably coming from individual performances vs team w/l record.
