During an appearance on SporsCenter, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler gave the scoop on the Vikings and Maye, citing a belief around the league that they know he could be a perfect fit for Minnesota, h/t Bleacher Report.
"Drake Maye, I've heard from multiple league execs he has the most upside of any of the quarterbacks in this draft, maybe any player in this draft," Fowler said. "He's got that Josh Allen, Justin Herbert build—I'm not saying he's them but he's got some of those shades—where if you can let him sit for a year behind the scenes, he can really develop into an All-Star. "The Vikings could be a perfect scenario for them. There's a belief among some teams that Minnesota could try to trade up to get him. It would take a lot, but they are armed with two first-round picks to try to make it happen." The connection with Maye and the Vikings isn't necessarily new. Minnesota hired former NFL quarterback Josh McCown as the team's quarterbacks coach this offseason. McCown, who showed an eye for talent last year when he reportedly preferred C.J. Stroud over Bryce Young, actually coached Maye at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, NC before the QB went to the Tar Heels. https://fansided.com/posts/nfl-rumors-vikings-trade-drake-maye-jj-mccarthy-01ht7tt1pefm

I'm conflicted about it. Ideally, probably not. But if they think Maye is the dude, I mean they REALLY feel that way, do it. Its their asses on the line ultimately. I've seen enough Troy Williamsons, Dimitrious Underwoods, Lewis Cines, etc. to know that first rounds picks are only potential, not a hard commodity. They are only as compensation.
I keep reading from some, 'what about this regime makes you feel they could pull it off?'. And its like, lol....KOC and KAM have been with the organization a whopping 2 years. Bill Belichick sucked in Cleveland. The Eagles let a Superbowl winner in Andy Reid go. As MB said and I've said as much, its all about the QB. Its transformational how a great QB makes everyone in the organization look like Albert Einstein.

I'm not conflicted about it! If he is the chosen one, the one above all others they believe has the ability to lead this team the next decade or more. Go get him. That additional one is the price of doing business these days.
If they are just looking for the best of the leftovers and not their number one target; stay at 11 or take a developmental QB later in the draft. The seemingly endless line of free agency QB's doesn't seem to work unless they are named, Brett Favre, Tom Brady, or Payton Manning, for the most part. New front office, new concept on how to win a championship. With KOC the QB is key, as it is with most all teams. If they go for it and fail; at least the tried.

Minnesota might have to give up more than what's ever been given up before to move up in the top 2 or 3. That's why I'm conflicted. Its not this transactional thing, teams in the top 3 are going to need something stupid to move off that. More stupid than normal, that's concerning.

Teams picking in top 3 generally dont have franchise level QB's. But I agree there is something unique about this year that says "additional garnishments required"
Unique year in that I dont think a Nabers or generational talent ala MHJ will crack top 3. One will get in top 5 though.

I'm not in favor of trading our 2025 1st. But, if we got back a 2025 2nd which will probably be a top 50 pick & another Day 3 pick either in 2024 or 2025, I would at least consider it.

Absolutely. If that's the guy all their tape study and analytics says is the best fit for the offense, then go get him. If he's Justin Herbert, nobody's going to care about that '25 1st...especially if the QBs you might "settle" for at 11 becomes the next Trey, Zach or Mac. Could they be wrong? Could it be reversed? Of course, but you have to trust your process.
