Cousins signs with Falcons

Too early to start the "suck for Shedeur" conversation...?
Well, Shedeur does suck. So, if it's worth discussing...

At some point, you have to move on. Would you rather have Cousins for 4 years/180 million?
$45mm was my #

How the rest of it was structured or guaranteed? I dont get paid enough to figure that out.
Vikings offered more. Structure just wasn't going to work. They wanted to go year to year.

Any idea what a plan B will look like?

Yup,

What do you envision as a Plan B (for bridge)
Do you expect them to get aggressive in moving-up for a QB, or is that not realistic or their style?
Translate year to year vs a 3 or 4 year guarantee?

Darnold is high on their list if they go the FA route, but think they will look at trade options as well. I don't foresee Fields, but Zach Wilson is apparently someone KOC is still high on and he'd be cheap. Davis Mills could be another option as well. But I think their goal is to find their franchise QB in the draft, which just might take biting the bullet and moving up.
If KOC is actually high on Wilson, I have zero faith in KOC's ability to judge NFL talent. There's a reason he'd be cheap. Davis Mills? Just give me another year of Hall.
There's just not much to pick from at this point. It's pretty much move up to draft a quarterback that can start almost immediately...or ride the Nick Mullens train to last place in the division
I see no reason to make matters worse by mortgaging the future with the absurd draft capital it would take to move up for the 3rd spot. They're all crap shoots. If you have to move up to 7 and do business with TN in order to block the Raiders or Broncos, that might make some sense, and save, a 1st and 2nd round future pick.
Yep. Screw moving up to #3. Way too much comp.
I think 5 may be more likely, unless they absolutely go head over heels for one of the QBs and know they can get them at 3. The price is worth it if you're right. But you're just emphasizing the importance on needing to get it right.
Sure does sound like they don’t even know who they want to take. Not a great place to be in 6 weeks out from the draft while the literal future of the franchise hangs in the balance.
Are you serious right now? Just because they haven't told you doesn't mean they don't know

"After significant and positive dialogue with Kirk and his representatives, we were unable to reach agreement on a contract that fits the short and long-term visions for both Kirk and the Minnesota Vikings. Kirk holds a special place in Vikings history, and we appreciate his leadership and contributions to the team and the Minneapolis-St. Paul community over the past six seasons. We wish him, his wife, Julie, and their children all the best.
Our approach heading into free agency always included layers of contingencies regarding the quarterback position. We are moving forward with plans that allow us to continue building a roster that can compete for a championship."

I wonder what year they're shooting for to compete again, 2026 or 2027?  FU Cousins.

They didn't want to keep him as the starter as long as he believes he can play at that level, so they didn't renew. I don't like the decision, and I'm hardly impressed by Sam Darnold, but the Vikings made the choice.

The money is still $10million per season under the top earners, it's about the time. The Vikings want to go younger, Kirk feels he has plenty of gas left. Impasse.

We will have a much better team with an extra 45 million a year to spend.
Yeah, because no team paying much for QBs is successful!

Well, y'know, except KC, who just repeated as champs...and Buffalo, always deep in playoffs...Cincy, 'til Burrow got hurt...Philly...

With all of the tampering that goes on I’d love to know how this convo went over the weekend.

KAM- 2 years, $76M sounds fair

Kirk- ATL says 2 years, $100M GTD and 2 more after that

KAM- $%!&

Edit- even if the Atlanta deal only ends up being 2 “real” years, I understand the hesitancy to match that guaranteed money. Regardless, we’re in a bind. Big time. I know opinions on Fields are mixed but if I’m KAM I’m on the phone with Chicago yesterday. Our other options are somewhere between trash and a flaming bag of…
I don't understand the attraction to trading for Fields. He's not great at pressure decisions, has been "fighting for his job" without making decisive progress forever,  and Chicago would bend us right over, as a division rival.

I know JJ mentioned him, too, but Adrian Peterson thought Frazier was a great coach...so....

I was fine with a 2 year deal and a rookie to groom. Always felt it would take at least 3 years guaranteed. I feel no ill will, but this seemed to be the Vikings plan since last year. Excited to see what unfolds the next few years.

I think the Falcons signing Mooney might shift the Falcons draft need at 8 from WR to Edge. They can probably get the best edge in the draft there.

nearly 40% of deep targets to Darnell Mooney have been inaccurate in his career

over that span the #1 most accurate QB on deep targets (20+ yards downfield) is Mooney's new QB:

Kirk Cousins

Here's what I think is funny with the two-faced media: Chris Simms and SO many others were always bagging on Cousins.....or at the minimum, back handed compliments. Now he's top 10? lol. Regardless, he'll be hard to replace and sorely missed this season and maybe beyond.

Whether you rank him top 6 or 7 like I do or top 10 doesn't even really matter. You don't typically see teams move on from QBs like that. Especially teams with offenses like the Vikings. There is such an enormous potential for this to blow up in our face.
