That's because he was a Brady/Belichick coattails hanger like sooo many failures from that organization. I want nothing to do with anybody from New England, especially one that's been a one time loser already as a GM. I'm all for (replacing) Kwesi though lol

Actually he came in w/ Belichick & was involved in selecting Brady.

not to argue for or against Pioli,  but can anybody really be credited for taking a HOFer in the 6th round?   If anybody had an inkling of what he would have become any organization would have trade half a decades worth of first round picks to move up and get him.  I can understand crediting scouting and front office people for day 1 and 2 picks,  but day 3 guys are such a long shot to become anything,  its just luck at that point.

Kind of like a shit load of awards,  for coaches and GMs when you have a good run with a Brady or Mahomes,  if it werent for the QB,  they dont win shit,  at least for Mahomes KC identified him and went after him.  I like conviction which is why I dont care if the Vikings even moved up a few spots for McCarthy when he is slated for later first round or day 2,  if thats their guy,  dont fuck around and lose him to the competition.

For me it would be as follows:
  • Edge/DT at the #11 spot
  • Move up for JJ McCarthy end of round 1
  • Sign Kirk Cousins to 2-year contract
I'd be extremely stoked about this possibility. What's your ideal scenario?
I said this in the other thread, but this really would be best case scenario IMO, provided Kirk's extension is reasonable without kicking more dead cap into future years. We need to get off that carousel
to those saying resign Cousins... what is the number?  keep in mind we already owe 14 on him for the next 2 years,  how much more on top of that works for you?  My number is obviously much lower than reality so even though I would be supportive of resigning him,  I have to say move on from Kirk,
extend Hunter,
ework Hitman without adding bullshit years,
approach JJs camp,  but not really a requirement ( would be nice to have him locked up though )
find the best bridge guy we can in the lower to mid 20s per year ( add incentives if they somehow really flourish in our system just to make it enticing )
identify realistic QBs and dont get cute in the draft,  they all get over drafted,  just because JJ or whoever should fall to the 2nd, I dont see them being there at 31 or 32,  take them when you can and move on.

Use all available cap space to shore up OL, DL, LB/Edge positions,  if there are quality players fitting needs coming off rookie deals,  or short 2nd term deals  lets fix this in a hurry.

We may still not be a contender in 24, but dammit I am sick of the  OL and DL being the rubber stamp excuse,  let focus on fixing this and get the future QB in house.
Roughly 78 million for 2 yrs. for Kirk
Hunter...Re-sign
Wonum... Re-sign
Reisner... Re-sign
JJ...Extend if possible
O'Neill... Restructure
Darrisaw... Extend
Harry... Gone
Davenport...Gone
Mattison... Gone
Osborn... Gone
Bradbury... Gone
Lynch... Gone
Tonga... Gone
Lowry... Gone

Use all available cap space for potential targets: (DL Christian Wilkins, Edge Brian Burns, S Antoine Winfield, RB Josh Jacobs, RG Mike Onwenu, Edge Chase Young) to start.  If we actually sign any of these guys let alone 2-3 we should be a little better.

We would certainly have more flexibility in the draft if we got our Edge guy in FA, since I don't see a a great crop of difference makers this yr. at LB or Edge. Get our QB in our current 11  spot if we feel strongly about our guy, or move back a little and get our 3rd rd pick back. (my choice right now is McCarthy). Depending on who we get in FA, fill out the draft with, (in order of need/strength of draft): C, DL, IOL, Edge, RB, LB, CB.

True, they actually had Brady as a 3rd round prospect, didn’t “need” a QB roster wise, so the fools didn’t draft him ‘til he fell to 199. Idiots…!  Wink B)

I think your number of 39 per is a little low and possibly not enough years,  but I like everything else you had to say.  What do you think about that 3rd year partially guaranteed like Geoff suggests may be part of the ask from Kamp Kirko?

Imagine if somebody else had taken him and had similar success....  there would have been assassination attempts in bean town once that got out.

Would be really interesting to see teams draft boards from the past to see what GMs got it close vs really were just lucky dart chuckers.

Happens to the best of em...

The story of Aaron Rogers falling to the end of the 1st is an interesting one too...

Imagine how 49'er fans felt about that one...

As I said, roughly 39 per, with a couple million wiggle room, depending on factors such as bonuses, etc. I think Kirk would sign for 2 yrs. Not sure about the wording for a 3rd yr. or what Geoff suggested.
