NFL insider drops bombshell report on Vikings’ Kirk Cousins

I would sooner let Kirk move on. 90 million could go a long ways towards getting us a lot better team, filling other needed positions.
Even if we would pay Kirk, doubtful we would be able to compete against teams in our division.
Kirk has had 6 seasons with us and what has he accomplished?
but it wasnt his fault,  it was the OL,  the OC, the HC, the receivers,  the defense, the lack of a running game, the OL again,  there has always been an excuse for him not being the guy he was brought here to be.  when he was signed we were told he was the missing piece,  people brought up his shortcomings with the skins and the puffers all spouted that he never had a team like the Vikings around him,  he never had ownership and coaches that would give him what he needs,  well its looking like we are still missing a trophy,  hell 1 playoff win since he arrived and the story hasnt changed,  its the OL, no running game, porous defense... they likely should just fold the franchise.
The San Fran model - build a great team around a good but not top tier qb could work... if you actually built a great team around that qb, something the Vikings have never come close to doing in the Kirk era.

Someone on another forum asked the question - what's a better or easier path to a title--find the next great qb like Mahomes, or building a great team around a good not great qb?   To which I could only say, the Vikings don't appear to be trying either of these.  Honestly, they operate like they don't really have a plan beyond marketing the team and keeping the revenue rolling in.
OK so this post more so than others is getting to the real reason the Vikings haven't been competitive since 2009.

Let's look at ownership. Yes ownership has invested in top notch facilities and a significantly upgraded stadium which they didn't really pay for! I met Zigi once shortly after they bought the team, and I can tell you he really wants to win a championship. But ownership's hiring practices have held them back.

Let's look at the NFCN.

Detroit Lions

GM Brad Holmes hired in 2021.
Experience
Served with Rams in various executive roles. Also was a scout for the St. Louis Rams for 9 years. Played a key role in acquiring Aaron Donald, Jared Goff, Todd Gurley, Cooper Cupp, Pharoh Cooper, and Corey Littleton.
Swapped Stafford for Goff and promoted Johnson from passing game coordinator to OC.
Selected TE Sam LaPorta amd Jahmyr Gibbs. And Vikings fans know about Williams!

HC Dan Campbell hired 2021
Experience
25 years experience in the Nfl. 14 years coaching and 11 as a player. 5 years assistant HC of the Saints.

Green Bay Packers

GM Brian Gutekunst
Experience
Scout and executive with the Packers since 1998. Took over as GM in2016.
Brought in Love and moved on from Rasul Douglas, Devonte Adams, and Aaron Rodgers.

HC Matt LaFleur Hired 2019.
Experience
15 years in the NFL. Had been OC for 2 seasons.

Chicago Bears
GM Ryan Poles hired 2022.
Experience
Former player. 13 seasons in Kansas City. Was executive director of player personnel 2021.

HC Matt Eberflus hired 2022.
Experience
14 years coaching in the NFL. First time HC.

Minnesota Vikings

GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah hired 2022.
Experience
9 seasons in the league as an assistant, mostly in charge of analytical analysis. No scouting background.

HC Kevin O'Connell hired 2022.
Experience
Former player. QB coach for Browns 2015. OC for Rams but did not call plays. First time HC.
7 seasons with SF in R&D and analyst prior to Browns job.

Plain to see, the Wilf's have hired the least experienced GM and HC in the NFCN. The triangle of authority and watching moneyball are not going to blaze a new path to the Lombardi.

There is a reason they haven't been competitive since 2009. We can debate which players we should have or get, like in most of this thread. But perhaps there is more to it than that!

When did Kirk become this great QB all of a sudden? I must have missed that. 1 playoff win in 6 years. Time to get off the merry go round. If they sign him it will be for three years guaranteed.
...because, as we know, he was playing, coaching, and GMing the team alone since 2018, and all wins/losses fall solely on him.

Strange, though, because other players are on the roster...and in footage...hmmm...!
Oh I agree with you, it is not all on him. I am disappointed mostly with lack of roster around him in other key areas when the team started declining in 2018.

The fact that it took until this past season to get decent o-line ratings (minus the fluke of 2017) still just kills me. The Purple Faithful were dying to get a great QB as we saw superstars come and go all around the league, but we couldn't put the pieces together to host a dominant pass game. The accomplishments with Diggs, Thielen, and JJ were borderline miraculous.

Might be posted already but it's being reported today by the Pioneer Press that Cousins wants 90 million guaranteed on a 2 year deal to sign re-sign in Minnesota.

Lol hell no! Enjoy Atlanta Kirk...

Define being reported? As in someone legitimate has a source connecting KC or his team to this amount? Or are we talking heavy.com style of reporting where someone read something on the interwebs and beats a small snippet into an "article" using buzz words to get clicks?

It's Charley Walters.  Opinions vary as to how accurate he is at any given moment.

Interesting, just read this article, seems the buzz is coming from one person's opinion on what KC could ask for.

Was just about to post that. It appears there are some smart reporters left.

All this is pure speculation until we can understand what Kirk meant when he said that "structure is more important than dollars".  Does that mean that he wants a 3-year, no trade-clause, guaranteed contract?  How long does he plan on playing?  His kids are growing and his body has gotten beat to hell.  By his own admission, he's been financially blessed far beyond his wildest expectations.  He likes Minnesota to raise a family.  In my mind, a 2 or 3 year extension giving him options to do (fill in the blank), would allow us an opportunity to take a Bo Nix at 11, and at minimum sit Nix on the pine as he learns this offense and the team culture.  If Cousins falters in year 2 or year 3, we've created a more than capable backup.  There is nothing wrong with taking a page out of the Packer's playbook with the Favre to Rodgers to Love 3-year handoff.

This notion of $45 million for a minimum of 2 years is not based on any reality or demand...he said it...it's the structure, not the dollars and I don't think anyone on this board knows what that means.

Doesn't matter, it will now be the talking point constantly brought up until he signs somewhere. People who are too lazy to look into click bait news before spreading it as gospel have it etched in stone as fact in their minds.
