In 2023, 19 of the top 20 of the most watched telecasts were NFL games.

That level of dominance is unreal.
I think the two biggest keys to that were the NFL finally acknowledging that fantasy football exists and the legalization of gambling in several states.

We old people list reasons we no longer watch, but those are the very things that make it popular. All the Taylor Swift stuff, the bad reffing that blows up Twitter, the players we love to hate, are just contributors to the storyline, no different than Pro Wrestling, which is hugely popular.

ugh - what does it say when we are equating the NFL to “pro” wrestling ???

honestly between all the commercials, referee influence / blunders, cant hit the QB rules, self-absorbed dumbasses (Im looking at YOU A-A-RON) and Taylor Swift, I cant help but look fondly on those earlier decades when football was a sport, and not considered “entertainment”

oh, and BTW, I WASNT one of the 50m.  Went to the beach with my family.
At my age, trying to be more “in the moment”
Football has always been both sport and entertainment. It is a sport if you are playing it. If you are watching it, whether in the stands or on tv, or listening on the radio (is that still a thing?), it is entertainment.

Commercials suck, but football as entertainment was tailor made for TV, and that means commercials.

Referees do make mistakes and some may be biased and it does influence outcomes of games. That sucks.

How many QBs are injured every year? And even when they aren't injured, many of them take a beating. I'm not a huge Cousins fan but I am awed by his incredible toughness. But really, all of these QBs are crazy tough. They need to be - because they take a beating. I cannot agree that we need yet more violence and injuries in this already incredibly violent and injury-riddled game. Receivers get protected too, now we have concussion protocols, crack back blocks were outlawed, so were horse collar tackles, I assume hip-drop tackles will be next, etc. And I'm ok with all of it.

I don't like Aaron Rodgers. Arrogant and clueless. But I am a big fan of Taylor Swift although I don't really know her music. Can you be a Swiftie if you don't know her music? If so, then call me a Swiftie. And I think she makes Chiefs games more fun to watch. And I was definitely one of the 50M. Once again, the NFL saved the best game for last.

We're not. We're equating the appeal of the drama within. Look, there are many things I don't understand in this world. One of them is political so I won't go into it. Another is the appeal of pro wrestling. Just don't get it. Never have, never will.

But this morning I was reading its defenders on Reddit talking about how they knew it was fake, but loved following the "storyline" and the "characters." Your post reminded me of that. Taylor Swift, players we love to hate....all the things you listed are things that generate interest, not diminish it. Maybe not for you and me, but for millions of others.

Yep, fuck 'em. She's not doing it, the whores in the NFL are. She's been shown at least 3 times already in this game against Baltimore and its halftime. Am I sick of it? A little sure. But I sure as hell don't blame Taylor Swift.

Yeah she always gets blamed for shit she has no control over. She is a billionaire, she doesn't need any attention or publicity. It is absolutely ridiculous
