91 QBs, 7 Super Bowl champs (as a starter), 31 Pro Bowlers. Every one of them drafted with the expectation of being the QBOTF.
Not so easy to find a franchise guy. Not saying they can’t, but the odds aren’t in the Vikings favor.
Yeah, every year the talking heads / press fluffs these guys. Most really need a couple years holding a clipboard first, but all to many thrown to the wolves immediately.
Looks more and more like there are 3 guys and throw a dart for the rest. That will leave the Vikings throwing darts for a QBOTF.

I think McCarthy would be worth taking a swing at based on age and upside, otherwise we are looking at Cousins or Russell Wilson on a short term deal and probably taking another swing on another mid round QB. It's just the situation we paint ourselves into every season. Unfortunate

Pro Bowl is not meaningless, but when you see guys like Mac Jones and Mitch Trubisky and Vince Young with stars it reminds you just how often even QB busts can look good early and it really doesn't mean much. There are over 50 flat busts on this list.
I think the analysis should be limited to the past decade because college football has changed a lot since 2000 and the QB coaching at the college level has greatly improved. Think of Ponder, there are probably six or eight better prospects in this class alone. You have much better data on college QBs now -- more passing snaps in more pro offenses.
This is what I would like to happen. Vikes pick best defensive player, sign Cousins for two years and then trade their second to move up to #31-32 overall to take McCarthy (like they did with Bridgewater).

IMO, this is very much an option for the Vikings. I said as much in another thread.

I would luv that!
But in this QB hungry league, I dont think JJM will last till the end of the 1st. I think he will be viewed more favorably among GM's than a Levis too.

I think we're back to how these guys ranked early on, with Williams and Maye at the top, a wild card in Daniels, and then JJM, Penix, and Nix falling in the 20 to 50 range. So if it's not JJM, one of those QBs should be there at the end of the 1st.

Unfortunately, I think every other QB needy team has the same strategy. Kwesi wasn't able to move up to get Richardson despite a trade proposal that included a boat load of picks and Hunter per Brett Kollmann. If McCarthy has a good offseason leading up to the draft, he could easily move up to the 15-20 range. Michigan's offense didn't showcase the QB so we really don't know what he can do. I think a slight trade back for the Vikings and grabbing the best of the 2nd tier QB's is more realistic if we can't move up to get Daniels.
