Za'Darius Smith now a Brown
#1
After months of waiting out the market, Andrew Berry is executing a deal to bring a complementary edge rusher to Cleveland.
The Browns are acquiring Za'Darius Smith via trade with the Vikings, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Friday.
The full trade will see the Browns acquire Smith and 2025 sixth- and seventh-round draft picks in exchange for sending 2024 and 2025 fifth-round picks to the Vikings, Pelissero reported.
Smith has also reworked his contract, which guarantees him $11.75 million in 2023 and he'll be a free agent in 2024, Pelissero and Rapoport reported.

I guess we got something for a guy that wanted out but that feels underwhelming.

About what I figured they'd get for someone that wanted out of Minnesota. The league knew the Vikes didn't hold a lot of bargaining power. Definitely frees up cap space and a disgruntled Smith moves on.

It's solid comp for a guy who 1) didn't want to be here and 2) will be 31 years old when the season starts.

Frees up quite a bit of cap space for us this year and next year.  Nice move by Kwesi.

We're starting to load up on 2024 picks...  Have our 1st, 2nd, 4th, Lions 4th, Chiefs 5th, Browns 5th, and our 6th.  If we end up dealing Dalvin for a Day 2/3 pick, we'll have some ammo to make a move for a rookie QB in 2024 if we go that route.

Sorry, but we're now being told a bunch of  5th or lower rd. picks are somehow a good deal for players that were sold to us fans as supposed replacements for the true stalwarts. This is a second huge step back from where the defense was.

Weird trade, why not just get one pick for him instead of sending picks too, Kwesi seems to always overcomplicate trades

Did the Viking decision makers want him gone or did Z just want to leave?  I wish he would've stayed.  He was awesome until he hurt his knee.  The D is worse without him, I do believe.
