QB Jaren Hall
#21
Havoc's assessment is spot on in all aspects mentioned.  He will surprise you.  I expected 4th Rd., so glad we got him after passing on the higher profile QB's.  I wanted Hooker, but good consolation prize.  If he can stay healthy and adjust to the speed of the game at the NFL level (2 pretty big questions though), he has all the tools to be a pretty damn good QB.

just really starting to look at this kid.   early thoughts.

He's been well coached on ball protection as a runner,  he switches that ball quickly and properly to the outside hand once he chooses a direction to run.. i like to see that (keeps your inside arm free to stiff arm and protect the ball,  and yourself,  something AD never really adopted )

his arm strength being a question is bull,  if anything its his lazy footwork at times that has him throwing off his back foot,  but that can be fixed,  his arm is more than pro level.

I like his quick twitch,  both in faking a pass,  actually making a pass,  or in making defenders miss.  there is a shit ton to work with here.

so far I think his down the field ( drop it in a bucket throws) are to wide for a pro reception ( 2 feet vs 1 foot )  but that can be helped with better receivers giving him more room to drop it in,  but on the flip side... those throws dont get picked off either.

I am liking this kid more than I initially thought.  more to come...

I watched him a couple times this year and when I heard we brought him in on an official visit I started digging in a little more. He has legitimate boom potential and the Russell Wilson comparisons are real. Very similar playing styles. I really like everything about him and would not be surprised to see him get a shot this year at some point if things go bad

Once the dust settles, we tend to look at the positives of our draft picks. So what's important for a NFL QB? Mobility. Good decision making. Accuracy. Leadership. Decent arm. Low injuries. Maturity. Hall has many of these traits. He's in a very good spot to learn and grow in Minnesota. He obviously has weaknesses that made him a 5th round pick. I like the pick.

Injury history was mentioned.. is that due to his dual use in college?

Yep, that's a knock against him. And his arm strength.....which seems a little open to debate.

He seems like a Taylor Heinicke to me, someone who could come in and win some games.  When Hooker fell into the 3rd, I didn't see any reason not to move up and go get him, especially since it doesn't seem to me that we got a lot of value with our 3rd and 4th rounders.

JMO, but he's got more strength, mobility and arm than Taylor.

Finding a QB who can transition from college to the NFL is a fool's errand. Even in the 1st round, where you have a 17% chance of drafting a long-term starter. I don't know what the odds are for a day three QB, but they're probably under 3%. So I'm just hoping he eventually unseats Mullens as our QB2. I think his upside is Taylor Heinicke with a better brain.

I think 90% of what makes QBs successful is what's inside. Brock Purdy wasn't big, wasn't fast, didn't have a great arm, but it sounds like he and Hall have similar intangibles.

Vikings are over-due for a sleeper @ QB who blows-up on em. Something Wilson'esque.

I'd love it to be this kid.
