I can see why the Wilf's think that way. And it has to do with the defense, not Cousins. I would be shocked to see them trade Cousins for Lance. If they trade Cousins, it should be for draft capitol to move up and take their QBOTF in this draft. Lance wont give you the 4 or 5 years of economic relief that allows you to build a team around him.
There has been one consistent problem with the Vikings for a long time. They always have a part of the team that is lacking, or a weakness. They seem to put together a competitive team every 10 years or so, they are a bit overdue right now, while other teams seem to find a way to be more consistently competitive.
They need to hit on a rookie QB if they want to have the long term competitive success they had in the purple people eaters days. They didn't break through and win a superbowl back then, but they had a team that was capable year in and year out back then. They need an excellent defense and a QB on a rookie deal will give them an opportunity to build one.

From what I read the Vikings are taking long looks at the quarterbacks from Stanford and Utah St. Supposedly, they have strong arms and good mobility. Not much is said about them since they play on bad teams.

Odds of success in drafting a QB in later rounds that amount to anything is beyond low. I get they may take a swing later because its either cost prohibitive to move up, they have other holes to fill or they don't privately like anyone that much beyond the top 4. But they'll know if they select a QB in round 3 or 4 that its a hope and a prayer....but a small investment.

I think what the Vikings WANT is to trade back to the last pick in the 1st round, pick up some extra day two picks, and take Hendon Hooker there.
If someone jumps us, then we'd take a position player there, and fill some needs with the extra picks, and take a QB later. God knows they've looked at QBs at all levels this year, so they're clearly open to that option.
