Lamar Jacko
#1
Baltimore put the non-exclusive franchise tag on him. Which means they can match any offer or accept 2 first round picks from the offering team.
He's easily worth #23 this year and our first round pick next year. The problem becomes fitting him under the cap along with Hock, Darrisaw, and especially JJ. Not sure we can do it honestly but in a vacuum-- 26 year-old Lamar at $45M versus 35 year-old Kirk at $40M is a no-brainer. If we found a trade partner for KC and got some picks back it miiiiight be feasible. This is the type of big swing many fans have been waiting for. Not sure if this is "our pitch" but it'd sure be fun right? The stands would finally be full of #8 jerseys...

I'm just a fan who knows squat but KAM should be speed dialing Lamar on repeat until he gets a price. And then he should probably pay said price, whatever it is. We'd be set at QB for the next 8 years and if Lamar gets hurt once or twice in that span that stinks, but you take your high draft pick and fortify. It'd be expensive as hell against the cap but get cheap at RB, shed Hock if you have to, and go win a bleeping ring before we faithful kick the bucket! At the end of the day that last part is all I care about, however they do it.

It would be nice to have a young mobile quarterback but its a pretty steep price to pay for one.  Not only is the contract expensive but I'm just throwing this out there, suppose he suffers a Culpepper type knee injury everybody on this board would be bitching about the lack of a 1st round pick the next two years.  Would we even be able to pay Jefferson what he is worth with a Jackson contract on the books?

This is the question. But the current betting favorite for Lamar (other than him staying in Baltimore) is the Raiders who happen to have the highest paid WR in the league on their team. So while I agree it'd be tricky, where there's a will I think there'd be a way.

Baltimore is right for not paying him a fully guaranteed contract.  I think you could fully guarantee 3 years but 5 is a lot of risk for a running QB.  Especially if he's trying to top Watson's contract which it sounds like he was trying to do.  If the market rejects his demands for fully guaranteed, I think it'd make sense to throw our hat in the ring.  I also think this is just Baltimore's way of allowing the market to squash his ego and if they pay stupid money, then take the draft picks

Bold move, but the right one.

The asking price for average or just above average QBs is insane.  Baltimore by their own admission hasn't given Lamar the WRs he needs, but I don't see anything about him that sez insane Watson money, especially fully guaranteed.

I think your numbers for Kirk and Lamar are light. Kirk will expect the $45M. Lamar would be more like $50M
