Evero might not leave Denver
That's been my point, why would he want to leave Denver for a lateral job with the Vikings?
The connections from the past might be a very good reason. Evero spent time with Kwesi in San
Francisco and 2 years with OConnell with the Rams.

Yes but he'd be leaving a top 10 unit and a roster he is already familiar with for what, the Vikings heaping pile of shit on defense? I think if he doesn't get a head coaching job, and Payton want's him, then Payton is going to get him.
You could be right, but I'm glad the Vikes are trying to get their guy.

That's exactly why. Coaches want to go where they can have an impact. The odds of him improving the Denver defense are low. That defense could actually decline a bit, which could hurt his chances for getting a HC job. But turning around a bottom-ranked defense would be big gold star on his resume.

There are likely a dozen different factors, and staying home and working with Payton is a big one. But a chance to turn around a crap defense is the one thing we might have going for us.

Is it between Evero and Flores? Both are still HC candidates I think. Evero becomes available if he doesn't land a HC job and the Broncos hire Fangio as DC, which seems likely.

Flores is a great choice as well, but could already be in contract negotiation for the HC job in Arizona, but they're interviewing other candidates now, so it seems they may have moved on.

Pettine is qualified, but knowing he had a hand in this year's debacle is unsettling.
I want nothing to do with last season's staff and that includes Pettine. Whether it's Evero, Flores, Desai, etc. I want them to bring in their own coaches. There was nothing on our defense that performed to even below average standards so none of them should be back IMO.
if Pettine was the answer he should have taken over mid season. If Pettine is the hire the whole front office should fire itself.

Well, he is under contract with Denver for next year, so if Payton wants him, he is staying unless the move is a promotion (HC) which Denver can't block.

Evero might not leave Denver

I agree.

His best opportunity to become a HC is by remaining Denver’s DC if he is not hired this year by the Colts or AZ.

So it looks like Fangio really will sign with the Dolphins and will not join Sean Peyton in Denver - that would have been odd . . . going back to Denver as DC one year after they fired him as HC. So Peyton needs to decide if he wants Evero to stay on as DC, assuming Evero does not get a HC job. Seems like a pretty easy decision.

I think there's a good possibility here the Vikings might get caught with their pants down on this deal. I think the smart money is that if Evero does not get a head coaching job, he is going to be back in Denver as their defensive coordinator. I think the want list is in this order:

1. Evero
2. Flores
3. Desai
4. Pettine

Good chance we end up with our 3rd or 4th choices here

Desai out of the picture too.

If he goes to Denver as their DC, that opens up Evero unless he gets a HC gig.
