Might be at the doing a veteran a favor portion of the cuts -- release a solid veteran player who is not going to make the team early to give him a chance to catch on with another team.  Helps to build relationships with agents, etc.

Thought the same thing. But it could be cap related too since Mullens' contract his roughly the same I think.
