Impossible to say. Consensus had him going earlier than the Vikings took him. I've seen a handful of players over the years who were consensus early to mid rounders fall out of the draft, but that's typically due to late-revealed injury or character.
If there are legitimate talent concerns, they are almost always brought to the surface by the more connected media scouts like McGinn, Jeremiah, Brandt, etc. Such was not the case with Davis. The overriding opinion on him was that he was good in 2019, less good in 2020, perhaps overrated by the media, but still a 2-time All-American from a Power Five school. It's not batshit crazy to draft that in the middle rounds.
There is rarely much 'consensus' in the NFL Draft. I know you think Davis is going to pan out, you've been defending him since last year but its not looking good.
Wha?? Where did you get that idea? LOL. I thought he was a good value pick at the time, but Davis was DEFINITELY not one of "my guys" in the draft.

whats funny is at the time, Rick was credited for getting a steal on him, but now its looking like Rick was a dip shit.
If Spielman recommended an offensive lineman, or QB for that matter, I would just cross the guy off the list. There is a long list of schmoes that Spielman drafted that didn't work out. He seemed to seemed to like drafting players who were falling down the board for one reason or another, and calling them a great value or steal. He also seemed willing to take risks on previously injured players, but sometimes that worked out for him.

Agree with this. After Kalil, who was a consensus top 5 to 10 player, he started a string of mid-round OLs stabs who, at one point or another, were projected by many to go higher than they did: Yankey, Clemmings, Beavers, Isadora, Elflein, Samia. I agreed with this strategy since, at the time, teams were somewhat successful finding good OLs in the middle rounds. Bakhtiari, Thuney, Yanda--all middle rounders. Unfortunately, none of Rick's middle round stabs paid off.
It wasn't until he shifted that strategy up a round or two (O'Neill, Cleveland) that he started to find some success.
I'm not sure the team didn't suffer from the type of linemen they were looking for...zone blocking schemes and linemen that could get to the next level. This made sense in a run first offense but we ended up with a lot of undersized linemen that couldn't hold the point of attack in pass protection. Lots of film of these guys pre draft out in space blocking but less so in pass protection against the caliber of bull rushers in the NFL. Frankly, I think we got lucky with O'Neil...who was a converted TE that came to the Vikings and was "good at the next level in run protection". Turns out he's pretty good at the point of attack as well.

Agree. Instead of finding guys who were big enough, but could also move well, we went all in on the athletic linemen, which was a mistake. Also agree we got lucky with O'Neill.
