Make or break year for the kid???

I would hope a 3rd rounder could make it worthwhile putting him on the active roster in year 2

Hard to say 100%, but I don't think it looks good.

I must say one of the more confusing players in recent memory.
  1.  Has serious college pedigree.
  2. Yet, allegedly many scouts didn't have a draft grade on him.
  3. Plays a position of extreme weakness and doesn't sniff the field last year.  Thought he was in the doghouse for arriving overweight.
  4. This offseason spent a month in Dallas working with offensive line guru Duke Manyweather, who runs his own offensive line academy.
  5. Still appears to be 4th string at best.
So, unlike last year, looks like he is doing all the right things but getting no traction.

Doubt he makes the team. Kind of puzzling but for whatever reason he just doesn't seem to be good enough.

Given his resume,  something is off in this story.

I thought he was gonna be a Game 1 starter for the next 10 years.

That he's been a complete whiff doesn't make sense to me

What's becoming evident now is that if Minnesota wouldn't have taken him when they did, he would have slid farther.....maybe much farther.

Impossible to say. Consensus had him going earlier than the Vikings took him. I've seen a handful of players over the years who were consensus early to mid rounders fall out of the draft, but that's typically due to late-revealed injury or character.

If there are legitimate talent concerns, they are almost always brought to the surface by the more connected media scouts like McGinn, Jeremiah, Brandt, etc. Such was not the case with Davis. The overriding opinion on him was that he was good in 2019, less good in 2020, perhaps overrated by the media, but still a 2-time All-American from a Power Five school. It's not batshit crazy to draft that in the middle rounds.

There is rarely much 'consensus' in the NFL Draft. I know you think Davis is going to pan out, you've been defending him since last year but its not looking good.
