OT- Concerts
#31
Ok....need to clear something up. I also love LIVE music. We go out with friends almost every weekend to hear live music at some bar in either Boca or Delray Beach. There's a great place within a 10 minute walk from my house called the Funky Biscuit. 5 minute ride away is Crazy Uncle Mikes. Cool venues. Love cover bands that are good. Its a fun vibe. But going to say a Led Zeppelin concert or Rolling Stones concert, absolutely not. Where the original artists sing their songs live. My wife and I love this band and usually go to where they are at least twice a month: https://spidercherry.com/home

Yes, I know this adds to the weirdness, lol.

Yup, give me some Indie Rock and a smaller venue please...

I'll never forget my first concert though, this guy could play...Vinyl and concerts back in my youth!!

Had me a nice Pioneer turntable, Sherwood receiver and JBL speakers - my poor (and tolerant) parents.

Wow, I'm sounding old.

First show: Cheap Trick. A few years later I was more into punk and new wave. My girlfriend insisted I take her to go see Huey Lewis, which I did. Best thing about that show was that the intro music was Joe Jackson's Look Sharp album. I was like maybe Huey isn't all bad? No, he was. Spent most of the concert in the beer garden.

Went to the Montley Crue, Def Lepard, Poison, Joan Jett concert last night.

Bret Michaels was hospitalized from a bad reaction to a “medication” and ended up hospitalized. It sounds like hes got covid but who knows. So obviously Poison didn’t play.

Time hasn’t treated Joan Jett well. She sang fine though….for Joan Jett

Def kicked ass.

Montley Crue….wow…..Vince Neil was badddd. In football terms, Adrian Peterson is in the prime of his career compared to him. You could barely hear him because they drowned out his vocals with music to cover how bad he sounds.

So the Crue/Def/Poison/Jett stadium tour….would totally not recommend.

thats to bad, nothing worse than bands that try and hang on to long, it just ruins their legacy for those that may not have seen them in their primes.

I saw Bret Michaels last year with his band (not Poison) and they were great, Bret was in really good shape and still hitting the notes like you would expect.  He had Warrant open for him which was decent to,  the new front man doesnt have Lanes range,  but it was still an acceptable show.

Did Garth Brooks earlier this year.  Even if you're not a country fan you should put him your list

So how many of you remember Jay's Longhorn.  Commandos, Suburbs, Curtis A...  Jay's was the place to be in MPLS.  Spoiled me for going to arena concerts.  Last show I went to pre-covid was Pixies, left a few songs into Weezer.  Looking forward to getting back into some club music soon.  Things getting back to normal and I don't have to get up for work anymore.

I've never lived in Minneapolis, so I never made it there, but Jay's is legendary among the Mpls bands I liked--Replacements, Husker Du.

Interesting thing about the Pixies. They're popular again among the skater crowd. My 15 yo daughter, who's dating a skater, has started playing a lot of Pavement, Pixies, Sonic Youth. Deja vu man.

If your into the Pixies, there is a podcast that covers the latest album and their Covid hiatus.  Charles is a hoot, not what I expected at all, good walking material.
