Lets say we decline to spend our draft capital to move up for Williams or Maye and dont value the rest of the QB’s to take them at 12.
In this case we let Kirko go and roll with Mullens and Hall who are both under contract. Heres the thing, Mullens can put points on the board and we have a top 5 pass blocking oline in place. We add a WR and Dline, corner and S at picks 1 and 2 and our 2 key FA signing. The WR further bolsters our targets for Mullens(Mike Evans or Antoine Winfield Jr anyone?)
We could even sign Pastronaut to compete with Mullens in a full training camp and see what happens.
This O would score a crapton of points and we rely on Bflo or Pettine to keep us middle of pack on D again with 3 upgrades and paying Dhunt.
Obviously the turnover sitch looms large, especially Mullens can correct some of his most glaring errors.
If it doesnt work, we are parted with an aging Kirk coming off a potentially career ending injury and even if we are not that good, it gives all the people that want to rebuild a high draft pick with some nice pieces in plac and big future cap space. Thoughts?
Cousins 28 million will hit whether he is signed or not. Evans is 30 years old. We still need money to sign Jefferson, they could pick up Darrisaw's 5th year option and Hunter's possible cap hit is something to consider. Probably have to get rid of Harrison Smith because of an 11 million dollar hit. Antoine Winfield is in the final year of his rookie deal so he could be resigned by Tampa
As far as the quarterbacks are concerned, they could sign Dobbs and Mullens but is that really the best option? Depends on what you are looking for out of the season. I don't see Mullens correcting anything, he is what he is. He is a backup. Hall is qb3 maybe.
Still need a center if you want to run power. Bradbury is a liability in that scenario.
Kirk is the big unknown because of the injury and how he will recover. The key is whether he is extended or not. Definitely need edge help on the defense and a nose tackle or a 3 tech.
Have to figure out the run game and screens.
If that's the plan, I'll be skipping watching the Vikings next season.
If the team wants to move on from Kirko, there will be better vet QB options available than Mullens or Dobbs. Both have shown to be turnover machines. I don't want either on next year's roster. Not even as back ups.

Agreed. If the plan turns out to be move on from Kirk and sign a bridge vet QB to play ahead of a highly drafted rookie QB for a year, it can't be Mullens or Dobbs. Can't.

I think the level of that bridge QB depends on the level of our drafted QB. You make a monster move for a pro ready guy, then no you don't spend much on that vet, but if you think you may need that vet to play more than half the season, you buy a little nicer. I am not against keeping Mullins to help mentor hall and ?, but not if he is going to be relief on to start.

The problem is that the timing is off in your scenario. The Vikings have to make the Cousins decision a good two months before the draft.
Either way, this team is not going to saddle Jefferson, Addison and Hockenson with a starting QB like Mullens or Dobbs. They will either sign Cousins (most likely), draft a QB capable of starting right away (trade up), or both.
I think one of these 5 QBs will be there for us,
Williams, Maye, Penix, McCarthy, Nix.

As of today, I think Penix, Nix & McCarthy (if he declares) will be available for us. The question is does KOC like any of these 3 to run his offense.
You also have to consider if the value is there to draft them in our current position or can we trade down, add an additional pick & still get our guy. Or are we better served to draft another position of need w/ our 1st round pick & select a QB in the 2nd (possible Nix). Or if you want to take advantage of the 5th year option, trade up into the 1st round using our 2nd & additional draft picks. These kind of decisions is where a good GM makes his bones.

If the value is there and the guy they want is there run that card to the podium. Screw that trading down shit. Its just so Viking like to think they can trade down a few spots and still get their guy only to have him taken the pick before they are on the clock. With all of the teams currently ahead of the Vikings in the draft, they all could take a quarterback, with only 2nd tier guys falling into the 2nd round.
