Pick 34 - available?

I like Mafe a lot and think edge is a need... Too bad we don't have 46.  Vikings could really load up today with some good prospects.  Not impressed with Kwesi's trade last night.  Unless we begged Detroit to trade up, we didn't get enough of a return for trading back with some blue chip guys available at 12.
That's exactly what this feels like. We took certain positions off the board at 12 and were determined to trade down which I completely disagree with. I brought this up earlier in the week with all of the trade down advocates. When you trade down and target certain players or positions like we did, this is exactly what can happen. We essentially devalued our own pick and outsmarted ourselves. It seems like we forced a trade and took the best offer we could get and got taken advantage of. The fans who are trying to justify the points exchange in the trade thinking we got equal value are missing the bigger picture. You don't sacrifice that much draft position in the first round without getting a premium to do it, especially with your division rival. We didn't need a WR when we took Moss and look how that turned out for us. I like Cine, but there was a good chance he would have been there with our 2nd if we would've stayed put and could have added an impact player at 12 between Williams or Davis. Cine will be a solid player, but you don't win Super Bowls in this league by settling on solid players.

Can you imagine how the board would go off if they trade down again lol. There are some good players left. It is such an unusual draft.
I thought the same thing. There's a buzz that they might. Sounds like they got an intriguing offer at 32 but declined. Rumor is that it was the Packers trying to move up for Pickens.
I personally would stay since the talent it too good, unless a team hoping for a QB is ready to grossly overpay.
When have we ever gotten grossly overpayed on a trade. Take yesterday for example and... I won't mention other trades to spare the board of PTSD.

Well, they didn't get a premium overpayment for their Trade Down last night so I have little faith they understand what that means.

Willis has some intriguing value here. Sure, he needs to learn how to play NFL QB, and he's a long ways from being able to do that, so while a 1st rounder is a big gamble, his upside in the 2nd round is going to be very tempting for teams. If a team doesn't trade up to 33, the Vikings are going to get some offers.
Especially if the teams that need a QB don't want Baker. Carolina doesn't really have much to offer this year, but the Seahawks do. I hope Kwesi is spending a lot of time chatting with the Seahawks today to see what he can negotiate, especially with them having 40 & 41 (Not saying we would get both, just saying they have two early 2nd round picks).
I would deal 34 and 77 for 40 and 41 in a heart beat.  Seattle gets their guy, we add another pick in the top 66, giving us 4 picks in a deep and talented draft class.

40 and 41 (McCreary/Booth & Ojabo/Hall)

Here's how I would take them...

1. Booth - We still need a corner
2. Gordon - "
3. McCreary - "
4. Dean - Cine and Dean
5. Hall - Just really like the player and 5T is a need
6. PIckens - He might top this list if we didn't still need a corner
7. Mafe - Don't think edge is a big need, but you can never have too many pass rushers
8. Ojabo - "
9. Ebiketie - "
10. Tindall - Didn't start at Georgia, but might have more NFL upside than those who did

That's a good list. I think CB is the #1 priority too. Instead of DE I would support a TE, especially at 66...not saying that's the pick I want, but I wouldnt be mad if we picked one then.

Unless they take a flyer on Willis, I'd think the pick would have to be a corner. My bet is on Kyler Gordon

Had they received fair value from Detroit and kept their second round pick, they would have more flexibility to take the BPA at 34. Now they have painted themselves into a corner, no pun intented, and have to take a CB at 34 to get a potential starter. Fortunately, there are some good options that grade out well at this pick in the 2nd round.

It still fathoms me why we gave them our 2nd? It just flat didn't make sense and didn't have to happen.  We could have given up other capital if thats what had to happen but moving 20 picks in the 1st is a hell of a drop and should have been worth a hell of a lot more then what we got.

On Common's show, his draft guru guest is claiming there is a strong indication that the Vikings have already made a trade at 34 for a team wanting to move up for Malik Willis. Potentially the Giants, Atlanta, Lions, and Seahawks but that they may prefer Ridder over Willis. Interesting.
