Great breakdown by Oracle and I completely agree. There was nothing good about that trade down. In a draft light on first round talent, we traded out of a prime spot to pick last in the round for extremely minimal compensation...and to a division rival to make it worse. I think Jameson Williams is going to be a problem for us who now get to face him twice a year within the division. Lions got better last night and the Packers got better last night. We take a safety (which I consider to be a
minimal impact position) who was projected to be a second round talent, while bypassing the safety everyone considered the best in the class and maybe the best in the last decade. I don't get it. I don't get anything about this trade down and then drafting Cine. On any trade value chart the value comes up 1640 for the picks given up to Detroit, to 1410 for the picks acquired by the Vikings. That's a 230 point swing in value just given up by Kwesi, which on the trade chart is equivalent to the 72nd overall pick in the 3rd round.

For a new GM trying to make a good first impression in his first draft and excite the fan base, Kwesi did his best Amber Heard impression and shit the bed hard. I was against the hiring of Kwesi because there's just no real football experience there and this is a great example. I haven't felt violated like this since on a draft day since Tice was in charge and running things. Just awful...
Yes, and the same goes for our brand spanking first-time calling plays HC.  Expect some speed bumps along the way but I agree Kwesi first move was more of a mogul then a speed bump.

Many fellow posters just seemed to buy into hype (Kwesi being a genius) and O'Connell (fix KC and our Off becuase he came from the Rams) without being realistic.  They are both very inexperienced at thier new positions, novices really.

Sorry, but tis was NOT a good start to this regime. This was a complete shitting of the bed. I get you want to do something your way. But this was not the time to do it. If you don't end up being the smartest person in the room.... after doing this.... Yer the dumbest. And a multi million dollar operation where winning is all that matters has no time to wait on youto figure it out.

I was not sad to see zim and rick go....that doesn't mean that I have to have faith that these guys will be worlds better. It is quite possible that we are still in a bad situation. Hope it all works out but I haven't seen anything to get excited about.
This was a loss in trade value no doubt.
not according to ESPN trade analyzer, vikings to the plus side per them.

This is what I found on ESPN:

My take: There's no way to round off this edge. The Vikings didn't get the kind of slam-dunk value you would hope to get in exchange for trading down 20 spots in the first round. They in essence swapped first- and second-round picks with the Lions, going from No. 12 to No. 32 in the first and from No. 46 to No. 34 in the second, in exchange for an early pick in the third round (No. 66 overall). Ultimately, new general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah decided he was better off making the deal than turning it down, even if it wasn't a rout on any trade charts. In the process, he passed at No. 12 on a higher-regarded safety in Notre Dame's Kyle Hamilton. If nothing else, Adofo-Mensah left a clear trail for second-guessing his first-ever draft pick.

Google vikings trade
First thing that comes up with that Google search:

Vikings trade a troubling echo of uninspiring franchise draft historyThe decision to trade back in the first round of the NFL Draft means Kwesi Adofo-Mensah's front office hasn't moved far from its predecessor.

Then you have SI: This is a stunner. With players like Williams, Kyle Hamilton, Trent McDuffie, Jordan Davis, and Jermaine Johnson on the board, the Vikings elected to move back 20 spots. They now have two picks in a three-pick span in the 30s, but also had to move back from 46 to 66 to make it happen.

Then there is this from Heavy: NFL Analyst Blasts Vikings, Contradicting His Grade of Draft Trade With Lions
Thanks for recommending that I google vikings trade; I feel muuuuuccccchhhhh better.

Draft trades are very black and white, everyone uses the same chart (not these obscure charts some are trying to use to justify the trade).  You can look at every trade that is made during the draft and they all follow the same formula.  Cine can be an all pro and it will never negate the fact that our GM went to the bank to cash a hundred and walked out with a fifty and some change.

If you look at the other trades that involved only draft pick compensation last night the team that moved down received more points based on the compensation charts. That didn't happen with the Minnesota/Detroit trade.

After reading KAM's comments on the trade, it's still not clear to me who initiated the trade. After Stingley & Sauce were off the board was Minnesota so desperate to move out of #12 that they just took the best deal available? If so, that's really disappointing.

Given all the other teams that traded up last night, it's hard to believe that the Detroit offer was the best that they could do.

Brad Holmes reportedly told folks that they expected the Vikes to demand at least a first and they were ready to pay it. Kwesi must not have wanted another pick next year. Doesn't make a lot of sense but hopefully the guys we select make up for it

If that's the case then "Daddy" Holmes just spanked the whiz kid pretty hard and I think that's pretty plain to see at this point. I didn't like Kwesi's explanation for the trade down. Almost like they set up these draft scenarios and then when certain players they liked went off the board, the "plan" was to bail on the pick in a trade down regardless of what that deal was. The Lions shitty offer was the best offer, so they stuck with "the plan" and took the offer. I don't know what analytical bullshit that was but it just shows a lack of awareness and not taking circumstances into consideration. It's a new GM who's background is stocks and analytics getting spanked in his first draft.
