Waiting on Terms, but very smart sign by #Vikings on Guard Chris Reed. Creates competing at both G spots. Great depth too. Perfect scheme fit. One of the more underrated FAs.
Now that is something special
Ha! I was going to comment that this was the part that didn't ring true to me. None of these guys are going to compete with Ezra. But I like your interpretation better. :-)
Yea and most guys, even NFL players, have a HARD time competing for one G spot. He is getting to the second level folks

OK, one more:
Watching him play both Guard positions is going to be like watching porn.

But can he play Center? Just asking for a friend.
Wyatt Davis can…. It's possible Wyatt is a bust.
Possible? I know this is only year 2 for him but unfortunately it’s not only possible but probable that the dude is a stone cole bust. Hopefully everything clicks but until TC reports say he’s a different player than there’s not any substantial reason to think he’ll contribute.
Just his pedigree...the fact that he was a 2-time All American from one of the best programs in college football and a 3rd round draft pick.
Stone cold bust is a distinct possibility, but right now there's no reason to think that his problem was anything more than conditioning.
Your take is hilarious. He had a entire NFL season to get in shape. If he chose not to do so, you by definition already have another issue. Add on top of that his large drop off in play and injuries that led to him falling down the draft board and I think there’s a little more than conditioning to be worried about. I mean work ethic, injuries, and performance issues, coupled with not sniffing the field at our spot in most need all send up a few flags for me. Maybe I’m crazy that way. Lol

I think you may want to know more about Davis' final season at OSU.
https://www.cleveland.com/osu/2021/04/will-ohio-state-footballs-wyatt-davis-healthy-after-a-season-of-secret-pain-make-an-immediate-nfl-impact.html
By the end of the 2020 season, it was obvious Davis was playing through some sort of injury. He said he “banged up” his knee some time in the Indiana game, and still is not sure exactly what happened.
He aggravated it in the win at Michigan State — he exited that game early and was visibly in pain on the sideline — and again in the national championship against Alabama. Davis said OSU’s athletic staff examined the injury during the season and told him it was a “low-level deal,” but that something “just didn’t feel right.”
Davis received a second opinion after the season. He did not disclose the diagnosis, except to say the injury did not require surgery. He focused on rehab so he could go into OSU’s Pro Day on March 30 as healthy as possible.
“I wanted to play, even if I would have known what my injury was prior,” Davis said of the national championship game. “I still would have played, just because we were right there. It was either all in or nothing. So it was pretty easy for me to make that decision.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The dude likely was not all the way back by training camp and the fact he did not play is something I would not use against him because almost all the 3rd round picks got very few snaps. Not sure why but a lot of folks are putting that on Zimmer being a horse's arse.
I have no idea if he was in shape or not in shape and I am not sure anyone on a fan site would know either. I mean, if he really was not in shape they could have put him on the PUP list right?
The dude did not shut it down to protect his draft status and toughed it out to try and help his team win.
I kind of like that spirit myself.

I have to defend MB here as that is all we ever heard from the Vikings was a conditioning issue. Now, whether that was true as to the only issue or if it was more of a Mike Zimmer doghouse issue who knows? I do know that after watching him in college I was shocked as to what happened last year. Sure would be nice for him to pan out and play to his potential though, they would have a top caliber guard for once.
Zimmer had a hard on against offensive rookies the whole time he was here, its known he was feuding with Spielman this last year, and we know Zim is a petty bitch. O also think he knew he was out months before it was made official, why is it hard for fathom that the reason. Davis didn't play is due to zims petty shit and not really a mark of the kids future potential?
I've said it plenty, but I dont think we can really say we learned much of anything on our young players this last year.

Nothing you said here is wrong, but you pointed out even more reasons to have concerns in making your point. There’s a lot to be concerned about. I hope he pans out, but him not touching the field last year is concerning in numerous ways.

Which part of my take did you find hilarious? That he could be a stone cold bust, or that his problem may have been conditioning?

I think it's more than a Zimmer doghouse thing. The only thing we know for certain is that he's currently in a fitness program in Florida and on some kind of meal plan so he can report to camp at a targeted weight. Who knows what the real issue is, but this sounds like a pretty good clue.

I don't know if he played any RG last year but I believe he stepped in for Quenton Nelson when Nelson went down with Covid. The Colts' Center was out for a few games last season but Reed was not the backup Center. The Colts had a really good backup behind a great Center. As a Vikings fan, I cannot even fathom that situation.
