From the mocks I've seen, it looks likely that he'd still be there when Minnesota selects. The need at corner would outweigh taking Davis then? Or another need? Sure looks like a beast to me.
Draftniks: any chance Vikes would take Jordan Davis?

I would take him. I wish the Vikings could take all the 4 top Georgia D prospects in this draft. Having a dominant front 7 can really change things. See San Francisco and how they have drafted. The Vikings will probably go CB, its what they do. I am not interested in one at 12 unless its Sauce Gardner and maybe Stingley if his medicals check out.

Davis would be a legit value pick. WR is another position of value at #12.

Little chance IMO. We just signed Harrison Phillips to play inside for us and Davis, while clearly a physical freak, has some bad tape out there. Do you take a 2-down player in the top 12?
QBs, LTs, CBs and pass rushers are premium positions. Nose tackles who don't rush the passer is not one of them. But who really knows? This is a new regime. For years we may not have known the specific player the Vikings are going to take, but we always knew what position. In the last 10 years, the only surprise was Mike Hughes. It will be interesting to see if KAM and company are as predictable.

I build through my lines, hell yes I take a dominant big man, from a tested team/conference, if he's there at 12. If the top 1- 2 corners are gone I move onto Davis, or I am looking to move down although it needs to be for value.

Quote: @JimmyinSD said: Thats my line of thinking too... Gardner, a medically cleared Stingley or a blue chip DL before I drop to next tier of DB's To Maroons point, not sure you go Davis @ 12 unless you are pretty sure he can be more than a 2 down guy. Another Edge in the rotation would be my first choice. And I am a really big fan of Davis too.

I like the idea of dominate trenches. Quite honestly, if we could get a 3-4 end we likely need that more then DT. I see almost no chance that both Hunter and Smith play the whole season.
But if we assume the top flight ends and 2 CBs are gone, go for it. The point was made above that Davis is a 2 down player. We’ve drafted so damn many no down players that 2 downs sounds kinda nice.

Davis disappears for stretches and another knock is he doesnt show-up at the biggest times...I dont know if he's the next Pat Williams or the next Steve Emtman.

I've gone back and forth on this choice and my answer turns on 2 issues: 1) medical clearance for Stingley; and 2) defensive coaches are confident that Davis can generate a consistent pass rush up the middle. If both are yes, then I'm fine with either. If one is a yes and the other a no, go with the yes. If both are no, look for another option.

There isn't going to be a blue chip player available at #12. They will all have warts of some type. I think their best chance of landing an elite player is if Hamilton drops because the Safety position is somewhat devalued in the first round.
