Cleveland was still never interested in Cousins, per Lloyd
#21
The Browns were interested in Kirk. The cost of acquisition and extension weren't going to make sense for them. So maybe this could be summarized as they looked into it and it wasn't going to make sense. But it wasn't simply, we won't even ask about Kirk.

so Cousins former position coach/offensive coordinator wasnt interested enough in KC to reach out the Vikings once it was decided to improve on Mayfield?  What is that saying?  I can see Watson,  and possibly Wilson,  but to not even have him on their list,  or reach out?  especially after Wilson went off the board.  I mean you would think they would have had a back up plan in place once they pissed baker off in case they couldnt land Watson.  I have a hard time believing that they didnt at least look into it.
Only the true Kirk believers think he has a lot of value.  2 playoffs in 7 years for the teams he has led.  Not all his fault but other GMs look at that and wonder WTF?  What it means to other GMs is that they had better have everything, and I mean everything, around him pretty dang good in order to just get in the dance.

He's washed.

He was the 4th rated QB in the NFL and “not all his fault”….right. We had a mediocre line and nearly the worst defense in the league. Our defense was so bad, it broke a record for being horrendous in the last two minutes.
Our record had little to do with Cousins. He’s one of the few who earns his money and does his frigging job. That’s reality.
The other reality: no GM is wondering WTF. That’s ridiculously irrational. They know well why the team doesn’t win. Minus a couple of teams that already have franchise QB’s in house, the majority of GM’s would love to have Cousins. Why? Because they understand the game of football.
Did the Browns reach out about Cousins? I thought no, up until they made it a point to get it out there that they didn’t. There’s a reason why Mayfield believed they were trying to get him. Either way, it worked out for the Browns being able to get a young top 10 QB instead of an older top 10 QB.

If I were Cleveland I wouldn't have traded for Cousins either. I mean what's the point? Cousins might be a 20% improvement over Mayfield. But when you have a chance to acquire a 26-year-old elite-level QB, you back up the Brinks truck and you don't flinch at three 1st rounders. Trying to find that QB in draft, given that Cleveland is a talented team who likely won't be drafting in the top 12 any time soon, is a fools errand. Hell, I would've sent four 1st rounders if that's what it required.
Agree, Cousins was not worth what you would have had to pay/picks/players to get him and extend him for the Browns.  Watson and even Wilson were better targets for them.  Broncos gave up 3 players, 2 firsts, 2 seconds + for Wilson.  Wilson current CAP hit for the Broncos next season is 24 million and then 27 million for 2023.

Watson Cap hit for the Browns for next season is 10 million (structured in case of suspension) and then 54 million for the next 4 years.  They gave up 3 first rounders a 3rd and a 4th.

We keep Cousins and lower his cap hit by 14 million to 31 million and kick the can down the road for another year.  His dead CAP hit next year would break the Matt Ryan record just set by the Falcons of about 41 million they will owe.  Kirk's hit next year for the Wilf's would be close to 50 million.  We will be in a very similar situation with Kirk next offseason and even with a CAP increase I think a worse situation.

I know, If I were the Browns I would have taken Watson and Wilson (at those costs) but not Kirk.  I would have rode with Mayfield (at only 19 million) over Kirk and hope for a bounce back healthy season as the initial article says was their plan.

Indy just traded a 3rd for Matty Ice and his giant salary. So that’s probably about what Kirk’s value is. Is a third round pick enticing enough to the Wilfs to basically tank the season? Probably not. Trust me I’m more than ready to get off the Kirk merry go round but unfortunately unless the Vikings want to roll with a rookie at QB, there aren’t a ton of options out there.

Ryan's cap hit for the Colts this season will be a very nice 24 million dollars and then 29 the following season.  The Colts only had to give up a 3rd round pick to get a QB who's market value in over 30 million per.  It is a coup for the Colts.  The Falcons, on the other hand, have a record 40 million hit in dead Cap in the trade.  If we are forced to do the same next year with Cousins our/wilf's dead cap hit is almost 50 million.   The Falcons kicked the can and got kicked in the nutz...full rebuild mode now.

We will be facing the same scenario with Cousins next year at this time.

Colts:

2021 - The Eagles traded Carson Wentz to the Colts on Thursday for a 2021 third-round pick (No. 85) and a conditional 2022 second-round pick, according to multiple reports.
The 2022 pick would become a first-round selection if Wentz plays in 75 percent of the offensive snaps next season, or if he plays 70 percent of the snaps and the Colts make the playoffs.
Wentz started in over 75% of the snaps so the 2022 pick is a first rounder - pick 16!

2022 - trade Wentz has been traded to the Washington Commanders for a second- and third-rounder in the 2022 NFL Draft (picks 42 and 73) and a third-rounder in 2023 that can go up to a second-round pick if Wentz plays 70 percent of the snaps.

Wentz CAP hit is 28 million for 2022 for the Commodes.

So the Colts were able to almost make up for the mistake of Wentz in trade value and instead of paying Wentz 28 million they will pay Ryan 24 million and give up a 3rd round pick.

Honestly of all the teams who made QB moves this offseason, Washington bungled it the worst.

The gave up a haul of picks for Carson Wentz when they could have just waited 2 weeks and gotten Matty Ice, Jimmy G, or Baker Mayfield for basically free. Clowns

Well, I have been on record all offseason to get the most we could in a trade for Cousin's.  We were on the hook for 45 million this season before his "extension".  Now we are on the hook for $50 million next season.  We are not in a position with those numbers of very good trade value next season so it will be a worse position then we were in this year but that is just my projection/opinion.  So, I am not impressed with Kwesi's first big decision.  Sure as shitte I hope I am wrong on Kirk.

Such a bunch of bullshit. Lloyd doesn't know a thing. Fans will run with any narrative that suits their opinions. As I mentioned the other day, who's to know if a 'source' is real or fabricated?
