Why no announcement on Hunter?
#1
Wasn’t the deadline today to pick up the salary, renegotiate or trade him? I understand trade offers have been low but does that mean we have accepted we will pay him? Should have there been some announcement?

That could have been announced, with all the speculation surrounding the situation.

Did they?  I am not sure about this.  I do believe the roster bonus is now guaranteed but I think there must be more to it.  I suspect they have not "paid" him yet.  If they had, they would have converted the roster bonus to a signing bonus and spread out the $18M over 4 years.  I think we are still looking for a longer deal or to trade him. That's my guess concerning this muddled and unclear situation.

A couple things to know about Danielle Hunter’s $18M roster bonus:

—While it becomes guaranteed this weekend, he still has to report to training camp on time to earn it.

—First $6M paid w/in 10 days of camp report date.

—Vikings still have right to convert it to SB at any time

at the bold.  and that is why it wasnt converted to a signing bonus by now.  I believe once its converted he can hold out and the team has no recourse,  is that correct?

This was my eluded to "its complicated" response from a few weeks back. There is recourse if he holds out but its not as simple. My guess is they'll leave Hunter on the $26M cap number for the time being. Once they get to the draft they can start to consider using it as a way to sign the draft class.

It’s weird. What to do with Danielle Hunter is one of the biggest questions the new GM and HC have to face.  To decide to pay the 18m is a significant decision. Now that the deadline has passed, not to make a statement regarding DH’s status seems really odd. Does this mean the situation is not fully resolved? If so, in what way? This new administration certainly has not proceeded in a way that would earn our confidence. Suggesting that they may bring back Sean Mannion? Absurd. Not restructuring Theilen, Smith etc in a timely way so they could participate in FA acquisitions? Stupid. Now this fumbling lack of clarity.  Maybe there is a strategy I’m just not seeing.  Maybe more will be revealed. I hope so.
