Did Matt Millen take over the Lions again?

The Vikings gave assurances to Kirk's camp at the combine that they wouldn't trade him. So he's not going anywhere.

He doesn't want to go anywhere and the Vikings don't want him to: fans and online podcasters want him traded. That's all its ever been.

He has one year left on his deal and the Vikings don't project to contend for a division title, let alone a Super Bowl. The speculation makes sense and is warranted until he signs an extension. I don't think a trade happens either but I think that's more due to a lack of suitors willing to spend than anything. JMO.

Why would the team do this? It weakens their negotiation position when trying to come to an agreement on an extension.

.......because they never intended to trade him and don't want to piss off a guy who has a $45M noose around the team?

Appeasement is an ineffective negotiating tactic.

KC has stated his desire to remain w/ the team. That should be used as leverage in getting the most cap friendly contract possible. He & his agent have a history of maximizing his compensation which is understandable. But it's a negotiation & the team should be using whatever leverage that's at their disposal.
