This post made me go look up the Bills cap for next year. Diggs is their highest paid player in 2022...wild.

Elite QB on Rookie Deal is basically the league cheat code right now as we know. Wilson, Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, (Goff too though he’s far from elite) all deep playoff runs and/or Super Bowls before they got paid. Less success afterwards. Teams who find a unicorn have been smart to go “all-in” early in these guys’ careers.

While I don't disagree, I think the whole rookie QB cheat-code is a bit overstated. Bluntly, the cheat code is having a great QB on a team friendly contract. That doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a rookie deal although that does help.
Of the 14-team in the 2022 playoff field, 4 had QBs on rookie contracts (Eagles, Cardinals, Patriots, and Bengals). Three of the four were eliminated in the wildcard round. I also would be careful painting the picture the remaining team, the Bengals, benefitted from Joe Burrows deal. Basically since they didn't spend to the cap its hard to say they really maximized the benefit.
The hidden key is having a good QB on a contract structure that allows you to move money around when its most advantageous to the team.
Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Aaron Rodgers, Tannehill, and Matt Stafford are all on long-term deals and most are top-5 paid QBs in the league. Each has a 2021 salary cap hit under $30M. Mahomes and Allen each were paid about $10M on the cap. So its all about contract structure.
Point is, these teams are going to continue rolling the cap bill into the future until they eventually need to hit the reset button. Its what you do when you find a QB you want to commit to long-term. The Vikings haven't been able to maximize this benefit because 1. Kirk won't sign long-term deals (less ability to spread out the money) and 2. They're half in the boat and half out of the boat so don't want to fully invest the future in Kirk.
So Doogie is saying a Cousins trade is possible? I thought this was all horseshit rumor mongering?

That's why I would think it's probably best to get off the Kirk Cousins merry go round finally. If the organization is half in the boat and half out, that should reason enough to hit the reset button. They found the mediocrity of Zimmer and Spieman reason enough to do a full irganizatiinal reboot, so why would the same not apply to Cousins and this constant contract issue with him? Even if that means suffering with a stop gap guy for a year or two while Kwesi and OConnell rebuild this roster and get "their guy" at QB. I'd rather go that route then constantly wondering what we are going to do with Cousins and his big money contract while our cap situation is dog shit.
