He's right. He'll be 32 years old before the start of next season. Still has gas in the tank for sure. He needs to reduce his cap number.
Yes he does. Some insiders are now saying Kirk wont lower his cap hit to under $40MM per year so that'll make trying to get under the cap a little more interesting...
link?  I don't believe anything has come from the Kirk camp, so this is recless speculation
Jordan Schultz, self listed insider, tweeted it today.

I hear ya Sticky, definitely the Vikes fault they agreed to it. Just sucks as a fan since his situation is one of the most obvious ones to restructure. Disappointing to hear

Totally agree with you. But I don't blame Cousins for this.

Yep, I still chuckle when some started believing that Merc Kirk was hinting at a team friendlier deal earlier this off-season.
Yep, why in the hell would Cousins give up one dime? If they had won a Superbowl, maybe. But even then. Home town discount for what? He's the QB and he's playing well. He's not the problem. I wouldn't change one word of my contract if I was Cousins. Choke on the catalytic converter fumes from my 1990 Chevy Conversion Van bitches!

I know he doesn't care but he's obviously not worth $45MM per year. $35MM per year is about accurate. If this is true then it's time to really start shopping him
Blame the Vikings. If I'm Cousins, its trade me or pay me. I know he may not be worth it, but the only 'worth' is in what is being paid, y'know?
If I'm Cousins, I'm thinking I'm never going to run out of money for the rest of my life, and most likely carrying over for generations to come.  I would be wanting to lead a SB team instead of milking as much money from the owners as possible.  Tom Brady chose to take less so he could surround himself with other great players.  That's just me though (and Brady I guess).

He must be really concerned about inflation....

I'd put the same offensive line in front of Cousins and watch him get smashed.  Then, I tell him I told you so...we could of fixed things if you would been more reasonable.

Legacy.  Cousins has earned 160 million in his career so far.  Will be almost 200 after this upcoming season.  https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/minnesota-vikings/kirk-cousins-9915/cash-earnings/ Tom Brady, in comparison, has earned almost $300 million but the most he made in a single season was last year at a little less than 30 million.   https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/tom-brady-4619/cash-earnings/ .  Do you think Tom Brady wins all those SBs by grabbing every dollar on the table?

Living in LA and listening to sport radio, one of the big topics is whether Matt Stafford now belongs in the Hall of Fame because he won a Super Bowl.  (He made 20 million this year).  Think about that for a moment, winning a Super Bowl elevates your legacy.

At what point do you say I have all the money I need and it is time to help build my legacy?  How much is being in the Hall of Fame worth?

BTW, it is not like Kirk is spending all his money:  https://www.sportscasting.com/kirk-cousi...ave-money/  Speaking of Vans, Kirk tools around in his grandparents 2000 GMC van.

Pretty sure the new GM and HC are going to want to improve the OL and Defense.  Can they do that and pay KC $40 mill?  I'd expect the topic of getting KC's salary to something more team friendly is discussed frequently, and I'd assume getting rid of KC all together has been discussed too.  It's going to be interesting to see what happens.  I don't see how paying KC 40 mill will be the move to improve the team from this past season.

This is a very short-sighted way to look at the situation. Just remember that pay-cut doesn't equal not wanting to do something with his contract that'd benefit the team against the cap.
