QB Jaren Hall
#1
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jaren-hall...a39d20a53c

Well built kid, does comp to a Russ Willson-lite. Elusive. Excellent toughness and leadership. Smart. Everything depends on that arm strength or lack thereof. Can a NFL QB coach get some more velocity into his throws? I read various things about it, that its actually decent to his arm strength sucks. I think his upside is decent backup, which would be nice unto itself. Who knows if it ever happens or not.
From a personality perspective, fans will like him: hard working, humble, driven to succeed. Amicable. Mature. He'll be eager to learn from Cousins and Mullens.

I see this as a nice pick,  but it likely doesn't erase the need for a franchise QB to replace KC.  The concerns of having to over pay Cousins once again still have to be there for those of us wanting to see the team move in a new direction.

Maybe the kid surprises,  I think he will be fun to watch at times, but the inconsistencies talked about to his game dont likely improve much on a bigger faster track.

For sure, as a 5th round pick, his odds of making it are very low. Very low. Like I said earlier, he's a scratch off ticket. I'm just pointing out some of his strengths. His two biggest weaknesses are arm strength and injury-laden history. Like Ben Leber mentioned yesterday, this kid is going to fight for the #2 QB position this season. He just might not have starter upside. He'll be fun to root for.

I think his upside is a #2 QB.  He's 25 yrs old and has some injury concerns.  He has some nice qualities, but I see more Seneca Wallace than Russell Wilson.

Still, if he can solidify himself as a good backup QB, he'll have been a successful pick for us.  Hard not to root for the kid, hope he surprises us.

I don't like him any more or less than any of the day three QBs. They're all shots in the dark. Hell, even the top 5 QBs were shots in the dark.

More than anything I'm just relieved the Vikings didn't panic draft a QB, or worse, mortgage the farm for the next epic bust.

I liked Hooker,   he seemed to me to be a guy that could have been part of a roster that would compete around that rookie wage.  I didn't see that huge learning curve that I saw with a couple of the others in that top 5.  I think Hall has some of that but I agree, his ceiling seems to be more QB2,  but I bet thats what the niners thought last year with Purdy.   Sometimes the situation elevates the man to be more than even he thought he could attain.

And it also does the opposite, shrinks the man in the bright lights of the NFL. That's why its so hard to predict who will be a successful NFL QB coming out. Hall has some very good qualities and one is nerves of steel, like Purdy. Will be interesting to watch.

They needed more youth in the QB room.
Too expensive to move up for AR with too few picks
I like the scratch-off tix analogy lol!!
They like KC more than many of the fans do, they just dont want to go down the guaranteed contract road too far again

Kwesi on Cousins yesterday...

Kirk doesn't need to do show anything to me. Kirk has played football at a high level before I got to the Minnesota Vikings. Last year we won 13 games. I don't know what he would need to prove to me or anybody else.

Sometimes you come to a place [in contract negotiations] where you decide, 'Hey, let's talk later. This is a solution for now.' That's all that's happened. We like where we are at the quarterback position, but every option is open to us going forward. We're just really excited about Kirk this year. The weapons we've added in free agency, the weapons we added int the draft, and we'll see what happens after that.

not to go too far down the rabbit hole, but outside of Hurts in the NFC, I dont know another QB I would want over KC:

Dak?
Fields?
Love?
Goff?
Purdy?
Smith?
Maybe (big maybe) Murray
Danny Dimes?
Dalton?
Stafford
Darnold
Heinicke
