The risks:

• Limited play calling experience — just 10 games in 2017, coincidentally Kirk's worst year
• As a green up-and-comer, unclear what kind of leadership he brings or culture he'll be able to build
• Defense has the potential to be catastrophic. DC hire will be key

10 games of play calling. More than I thought.

This makes me happy because it means we’re probably not blowing up what can be an incredible offense in competent hands. Get Cousins resigned to a cap friendly contract hopefully next. Then focus on getting a great defensive coordinator and have a solid draft/FA to fix our defense!

This is me. I will 100% give this guy a chance and hope to my bones he’s the next McVay. But it’s just hard for me to get fired up about many more years of Kirk. Genuinely hoping they both prove me wrong and there’s a Kirk statue outside USB someday. Life of a Vikings fan.

Pretty deflating thinking Harbaugh was our guy to falling back to OConnell. But that's the Vikings for you. Set you up emotionally for something big only to disappoint. O'Connell would have been my second choice out of the candidates interviewed but still...this sucks

I'm not going to try and talk you into or out of anything...

But why does hiring KOC mean we're going to ignore the defense in any way, shape or form?

LaFleur, McVay and these other young offensive guru HC's seemed to build good D's. Why not KOC? 

Its being reported the Vikings were most impressed with KOC's vision for the team vs any of them.

Kevin O'Connell is 36. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is 40. This is a new era in Minnesota with a young, first-time head coach pairing up with a young, first-time GM. The focus will be on collaboration, culture, and leadership as they look to build a team that can contend for Super Bowls.

He has over three years experience as OC and also worked with Cousins before so that’s a bonus. 

Tbh this is highly debatable whether it’s a bonus or not. 

Bonus for those who wanted to keep Cousins. A coach with prior history with him sure helps even though Cousins had his worst year when he was OC.
In fairness it was Jay Grudens offense and he was fired that same year.
That also is when O’Connell got a chance to call plays. As I already pointed out, he has very limited experience calling plays (we have been told that was a big deal so I am just pointing it out)
Again very risky. We will never know why we could not get Harbaugh but thats water under the bridge

While I was intrigued by Harbaugh, I had wanted a young, offensive minded coach to replace Zimmer and O'Connell definitely fits that bill. I want an offense that keeps attacking and doesn't try to run out the clock with a 1-score lead in the 3rd quarter. It will be interesting to see what coaching staff he assembles. Who will be the DC? Does he keep any existing coaches like Patterson, McCardell, or Ficken? What will his vision for the team be and can he be a complete head coach and not just an offensive specialist?

When has Cousins ever thought of doing anything Cap friendly? There is zero chance of that happening

I'm not going to try and talk you into or out of anything...

I understand the “youth movement” thing, but we have an aging and SLOW defense with LOTS of holes to fill. We have more weapons on O than on D.

So the guy has “vision”, and interviewed well....does that translate to W’s?
so we throw the ball more on first and second down, awesome....
We still dont have a competent defense, or a “money” kicker.
