If we were going to look at another DE in the draft, I really like Jermaine Johnson. Put up 12 sacks this year for FSU playing all over the defensive line and was the ACC defensive player of the year after transferring from Georgia. 6'5" 262 pounds, uses his hands really well and is able to close. Long arms. Great awareness and stacks against the run. He is my 3rd ranked DE ahead of Karlaftis and Ojabo. I didn't know who he was when the season started but watched him absolutely destroy my Irish in our opening game and put him on my radar the rest of the season.
There isn't a lot in the cupboard at DT in this draft, but the amount of edge rush talent in this draft is really impressive and might be one of the best collective groups ever.

Better than last year, but not by much. After Leal, who has some warts in his game, no one thrills be. Davis and Mathis are probably next, but limited juice in the pass rush.

Davis might be interesting considering how bad our run defense was, but yeah, probably just a two down run specialist. We could cut Pierce this offseason and the dead money wouldn't kill us in contrast to money saved against the cap. Tomlinson is a different story unfortunately. That guy was a complete bust this season. I wasn't a fan of that signing when it happened.

Let's say we go 3-4 and draft Davis. Would you be on board?
Just got word that @GopherFootball EDGE Boye Mafe vertical jumped 40 inches at 265 lbs in pre-draft training. High upside rusher still flying under too many radars. One to watch in @seniorbowl OL/DL 1-on-1 pass rush drills.

I guess it depends on if they decided to move on from Pierce, who I didn't think was the problem last year when he was able to play. They can opt out of his contract and save 10 million against the cap with only 4 million in dead money. I would much rather move on from Tomlinson but it's too much in dead money to make it feasible. If both are on the roster next season I don't think it makes much sense to draft Davis unless they see him as a huge upgrade.

The idea certainly intrigues me considering Jordan Davis is the size of two DTs.

It's almost cartoonish.
